Ideas re. keeping critters off our tow vehicle when camping?

At a gas stop on the way back from our most recent state-park camping weekend, I noticed extensive, shallow, criss-crossing surface scratches on the hood of the truck...haven't looked at the roof yet....

I did that once and got in all sorts of trouble. Campground host saw me and called the law down on me.


of course....it could have been because I skipped the step of using the spray bottle.......
