Ideas re. keeping critters off our tow vehicle when camping?

At a gas stop on the way back from our most recent state-park camping weekend, I noticed extensive, shallow, criss-crossing surface scratches on the hood of the truck...haven't looked at the roof yet....

I've always found a high powered pellet gun or a quiet .22 and a big stew pot tends to solve your type of problem. Of course, you need to stay up after the sun goes down and be a pretty decent shot.
