- dakonthemountaiExplorerIt looked like the fridge ammonia "blew out" when the trailer was being uprighted right near the end.. But they DID do a nice, gentle job of it!

Doesn't matter it is totaled. I know some wrecker companies. They hit the towing insurance hard. They will send as many wreckers as they think they can charge the insurance company for! So they charged well over a grand to right a totaled 5'er!
A buddy owns a wrecker service, I used to think the same thing.
He explained its a requirement of the police to get the road clear and open ASAP and if a particular company can't do that, they get pushed further down the call out list.
As for the finesse, it's the same deal, it's way faster to haul an intact trailer off the highway than it is to scoop up a million pieces and put them in a dumpster.
Here in IL a major towing company lost their IDOT contract because it was taking them way too long to remove vehicles from the highway. they would send out 3 wreckers and would take upwards of 2 hours to do something the new company is doing in a half hour (maybe a bit more).
O'Hare towing?
Yes i do believe that was it!

Makes me want to check my hitch to make sure it is secured to the truck after seeing that hitch still attached to the fiver. I would hate to see what the inside looks like.
I noticed the same thing. Brief look and you cannot see the whole thing, but it looks like the bolts are still there as well and maybe only four of them? Obviously it was not very secure.
Granted my trailer is heavier, but my hitch is attached to a steel plate with 8 or 10 grade 8 bolts and the plate is bolted to the truck frame with 16 grade 8 bolts. Took it off this summer (been there 8 years) to clean rust and repaint, back on with all new hardware. - dave17352Exploreri bet that rig was totaled
