I am 81 and have decided to give up towing and traveling South for the winter. It is not because I can not drive and tow safely anymore but because I am too stiff and hurting for all the bending and things required to set up and take down the rig and do all the necessary things that come with travel via trailer.
My wife and I have had a good run (over 60 years) together and camping so it is now time to park the trailer in my sons beautiful family campground in the northern Michigan woods and use it as our "summer place" until we no longer can freely move about.
Hey Barney, kudos to you and your wife on your time together!
I'm dealing with 2 bum knees and dealing with physical therapy, hoping to avoid surgery in the future. I'll take 81 for my last towing yrs! :C

As far as letting this thread run, I think it is because of two main reasons.
1. It does not violate any of the forum rules.
2. Members, including me, are having fun with it and are enjoying most of the responses which have been civil and often very thoughtful.

Our trailers permanent home - Michelle_SExplorer IIIGuess we're now stuck in Florida and won't be able to return North this spring since I turned 70 after we arrived South.
- RVman3252ExplorerI agree, it's not an age thing... I am getting close to 70, and as long as I have the health and ability I intend to go far beyond my 70th birthday...

Pulled this one back from the dead eh?
You know what’s too old? When yer wrinkly arse is doing 62mph in a 70 zone , in the hammer lane of the freeway with holiday weekend traffic returning home and you stay glued to that lane with yer arms outstretched at 10&2 like yer scared chitless but make no attempt to move to the right.....
Yeah just passed that guy and another whole gaggle of idiots on the road this afternoon.
As a credit to the old folks here, most of the idiots weren’t old, but they were driving Subaru’s!
The thread was exhumed.
We have those slow left lane Subarus in mass down here and to make matters worse, many of them are driven by old farts. As for all the younger slow drivers: I’ve refer to them as potheads or scaredy cats. - ChuckSteedExplorerNope 65 and I see myself towing another 20 year or so.l Also still riding motorcycle and no intentions of quitting riding my motorcycle

You cant be serious.
Cotton Wood was a neat little town in the early 60's I traveled on the road selling, and stopped at the Old Dept. Store run by a nice lady. Now it has grown so fast your don't know where to park your RV when you come to town. - Cloud_DancerExplorer IITime's running out alright. I have one more year left, and then I have to renew my driver's license. I will need to pass the vision test, and then I can legally go 75 MPH again (I set my cruise control on 67 MPH).
It's my responsibility to be a safe driver, which means it's up to me to decide when to step on the accelerator (reference the instructional video). - ol_Bombero-JCExplorer

Its been just over 2 years since this thread began.
It should be retitled "Is 72 the age to stop towing?"
The admin/s & Mods must LOVE this thread for some unknown reason!..:h
Any other -no matter how meaningful- would be closed *LONG* ago!..:S
~ - wanderingbobExplorer III guess I am 4 years past the OPs recommendation and will buy another trailer between now and the first of the year . It took me 75 years to perfect the perfect human but I finally made it .Now if I could only fix my wife , I have been working on her for 47 years .
