Is my setup a good one?

Tow vehicle:
'09 F350 6.4L TurboMax 4x4 crewcab Auto tranny LT275/70R18's SRW.
GVWR 11500Lbs, Front GAWR 6000Lb, Rear GAWR 7000Lb. 8' box.

Trailer #1:
20' Mirage cargo twin axle GAWR 6000Lb each. 16" wheels.
I have a Weight distribution setup for up to 1200Lb (2/bars) and sway control (both sides)

Trailer #2:
44' Cyclone 5th wheel toyhauler. Triple axles. GVWR is 17963Lb.
My 5th wheel is an 18K Super-Glide w/Super Rails and I had Ride-Rite 2550 Air Helper springs installed rated to 5000Lb@100psi max/pair on my truck.

Im not sure how to calculate the numbers, but if anyone can give me a thumbs up or throw some information at me, I would be most appreciative.
Thanks

  • If 3000lbs is the "listed" pin weight then it it likely the dry weight and will be much higher once you load it up. Dry weights don't include options, propane, batteries etc or any of your stuff. You must account for the weight of the hitch in the bed as well plus a portion of occupant weights will be added to the rear axle.

Your dry weight at 14.6k will be 15k+ delivered. Add in 1200lbs for toys plus several hundred more pounds for gear and you'll be reaching 17k quickly. The average pin weights for fivers are 20-25% of gross weight so even at the minimum you'll be 3400lbs + a couple hundred pounds for the hitch. Toy haulers tend to be even heavier on the pin to counteract weight of toys in the back. I'd suspect you'll be closer to 4k on the pin than 3k, if not over.
  • Thks for the replies. I'll get the truck weighed with full tanks, then get back when I can. Problem is scales are about 100 miles away at least. The pin weight for the TH is listed as 3000Lbs. GVWR 18000Lbs. Dry is 14595Lbs. TH tires are ST235/80R16-E. I'll be under GVWR when traveling as I only have food, clothing, 1200Lb of toys and minimum camping supplies. I have listed weights allowed for my pickup in my OP. Max payload is 4000Lbs. So I figure with pin of 3000Lbs and Air suspension of 5000Lbs shouldn't I be good to tow it as long as I have the load balanced and keep the pin at 3000Lbs? Pickup GAWR is 7000Lbs.
  • I think the toy hauler might be a bit much for a SRW. What's the payload and tire ratings? You might want to get the truck weighed and find out what the actual truck weights are as well to know how much room you have on RAWR. An 18k fiver will put at least 20% on the pin, toy haulers are usually a fair bit higher than that. Do you have the capacity to carry 4k+ pin weight?

IMHO you're well into dually territory.
  • not good towing gcwr 12500 tongue weight of trailer is about 3600# as it stands right now you need to weight your truck on cat scales for true weights with full tanks and people ready to camp then post weights here this is for the TH
