Just a shout out to those in the fire areas

To SCVJeff and SFVdave and the rest of you in Western LA County, Ventura County and along the 210. Is everything okay or do we need to form a rescue party and help?

Over here in Eagle Rock it has been dead still for all but about two hours yesterday. Just before they closed the 210 yesterday, I was northbound on the 2 and drove out from behind the hill at about the ramp for the 210 and the wind was gusting very hard. Two hours later the 210 was closed and the street traffic was horrid.

Well I hope all of you are doing good and not in harms way at all.

  • (Side story)... Yesterday, we were having lunch next to a couple who moved to Palm Springs from the Sonoma/Napa area. They lost everything in the wine country fires in October. Hearing the experience first hand was very sad and scary.

This couple lost EVERYTHING. They even had a brand new Winnebago Class-B (Mercedes Sprinter chassis) with only 150 miles on the odometer that was burnt to a crisp (showed me the picture).

They lost 20 of their neighbors as the fire came at through at night. They said the automatic warnings came through on the landlines, not cell phones (they personally didn't have a landline).

They watched the fire inching closer from a distance as they lived on a hill and decided to leave even although they were not in immediate danger. Two and half hours later, their house was consumed. It just breaks your heart hearing it firsthand.

    Safe travels,
    MM.
  • While we live in L.A. near Pasadena our rig and youngest daughter and grandkids live in Simi Valley so we hear about all the closures first hand from them. The storage yard evidently has somewhat of a plan for getting the rigs out. As I write I understand that now they fire folks are hoping that a significant on shore doesn't start and that the Santa Ana's continue to diminish.

Our daughter has missed a few days of work due to the closures, she works near the Silverlake/Sunset area.

    Hope all is ending now.
  • Looking at the news you have to wonder, is there anything left to burn? It seems there is no longer a 'fire season' it just goes on and on.
Pray for rain, lot's of it.
  • We're in Moorpark and have had the coach and personal items ready to go, but hopefully things are slowing down. It seems that Simi and Moorpark are in the middle of all the fires. Unfortunately, the off and on closure of the 126, 210, 101 and I-5 freeways have really created some traffic issues. Luckily, being retired, we're just staying home.
  • Fortunately for us, no big problems east LA county, although there was an arson fire at a park in Irwindale as reported in the paper today.
