Leaky external stovetop and delamination

My trailer has an external fold down stove top that is integrated into the curb side of the camper. Historically the stove top has always let in just enough water / moisture to cause it to constantly be dirty, and over time moldy. I have over the years sanded and repainted it a few times. I have redone the caulking around the opening to the point where it’s very tight and appears to seal, but the water intrusion issue still remains. My question is this, has anyone experienced something similar and what did you do to fix it? I am thinking of some kind of drip edge over the top but not sure what product to use to accomplish that. Could I just use some of that door edge caulk strip?

The fallout from this water intrusion is that it is beginning to cause some delamination below the external stove top. Gotta stop it before it gets worse.

Thank you

  • Could you put some sort of door over it. A door with a foam or rubber gasket that would seal against the side of your trailer to keep water from getting in. Open the door and flip down the stove to use. Flip the stove up and close the door when your done.

You can buy replacement doors for RV storage compartments. You should be able to find one big enough to cover the stove openining and then add some 3M sealing foam on the inside of the door to seal out the moisture. The door will need to be mounted to the side of your trailer and latched using marine grade hardware.
  • On the delamination, the best you can hope for is a professional fix. It's the moist or wet luaun wood behind the fiberglass that's causing the bubbling and the delamination itself.

There isn't a whole lot a lay person can do to fix delamination, unless they have some fiberglass experience, etc.
