Interesting. If they're squatting, where are they going for weeks?
I see a lot of folks who leave their rig on a campsite during the week. On Friday, mom and the kids show-up, then dad late in the evening. Dad leaves Sunday afternoon, mom and the kids might leave then or Monday morning.
We had a group with tents doing that at a COE campground we stayed at recently. When they came back the next weekend, a FTE Ranger met them and talked to them about the rule listed plainly at the gate and in the paperwork that campsites cannot be unoccupied overnight without prior permission.
We've left our rig overnight at a campground once, when we had to go home for a grandchild surgery. We cleared it in advance.
But as some have noted - some places those rules are enforced strictly, some places they are not enforced at all.
Due to a mechanical problem that put the rig in the shop, we can't make our plans for the next two weeks at Oklahoma State Parks. Since it less than two weeks before we cancelled the paid reservations, we get none of our money back - about $350. However, I'd rather cancel the res and let someone else have a chance to use the spot than have it sit empty because we can't make it.
