I spent the day driving on Highway 101 South on the Olympic Peninsula in WA state. I'm driving the speed limit (60 mph) and have logging trucks trying to goose me forward. There are no or few turnouts, and I want them to pass me. When I see an open spot where they can pass, I turn on my right blinker, move in tight against the fog line and slow down a bit for them to easily pass. They always seem to take the opportunity to pass but never acknowledge my efforts.Is there more that I should do the facilitate them moving around me?

Sounds like you're doing all you can. They are driving for money, faster runs means more cash. Don't let them pressure you into driving beyond your comfort zone. They should appreciate that you make an effort to let them pass.

You are doing everything right, don't let them intimidate you. It is nerve wracking when all you see is bumper and grille but concentrate on your safety.

years back going up 89 in Montana I had a big rig behind me and I was doing 55-60 as my toad was limited to that, and I got on my CB and told him I would slow down and pull over as far as I could the next straight stretch so he could pass. He said he was not in any hurry however. after another mile or two at 55 he came on and decided to take me up on my offer. :)

You're doing all the right things - drive in your comfort zone and don't overstep you abilities.

this is one of my pet peeves:

If I was driving on a country road at the speed limit and I see more than 3 or 4 cars stacked up behind me, i USED to pull over at the first opportunity. I did this for years and thought I want being courteous.

However, on a drive across PA last year, I pulled over more than 20 times on a single day and not one driver waved to say "thank you".

Guess what? do you think I pull over any more?

Trucks drivers used to signal a "thank you" by turning on their 4-way blinkers for 2 or 3 seconds - I have not seen this behaviour for a number of years now.

I think I may be becoming a grumpy old man.....
