liquid epdm roof application

Liquid EPDM. This is what you want to use. Read the Q&A. Watch the videos(mine will be posted soon). This stuff goes on like it claims. My roof looks new again

Doing it yourself you can be less than $1200 or less all in for a new roof even with new plywood.

Based on 30'....that and $200 in plywood, another $200 in sealants and adhesive, and maybe new awning and gutter rails / misc moldings if you booger them up removing them, which will probably be the case. The hardest part is obtaining the new gutter and awning rail as shipping those long lengths is uber expensive......thats where finding a good mom and pop dealer can save you money as some have them in stock.

A weekend project for two people if they're about a 1/4 of the way mechanically inclined and have 2000 brain cells.

Coatings are a band aid especially on EPDM which is more than 10 years old. It wears by sacrificing the outermost layer and once it needs coated, it's shot because that layer is mostly gone. The outer layer ended up being the streaks you were cleaning off the sides for 10 years.

I agree, and everything I have learned about those coatings, is once its done, its a repeat more often then advertised . I believe my money would go towards a new roof, and be done.

My rubber roof is 25 and is now starting to have some problems. ( I do store my TT inside though) Money doesn't grow on trees ( for only some of us apparently ) It rarely ever pays to "refoof" a some RV's. Unless you are talking about a expense Class A of course.

While money doesn't grow on trees, it IS wasteful to spend $300-$500 every couple of years in materials not including labor repainting a 19 yr old piece of dried out and possible cracking RV roof.

That IS the harsh reality of slapping any liquid coating over the old roof.

You simply cannot paint on a thick enough layer that will last very long. This is coming from the voice of experience, tried that, done that, it does not last very long.

The stuff goes on like water, takes many coats and most important is the cleaning prep and the primer coat.. Even then you will spend multiple days if not a couple of good weekends messing around with this junk..

Now to put that into perspective, imaging PAYING someone to do this for you.. They can easily put in 20 hrs of work when all said and done.. Around here, you WILL pay $100-$150 PER HR for RV techs.. So just in labor alone you can rack up as much as $3000 in labor costs not including paint, primer and cleaners..

Repeat that ever couple of years when the coating is worn off..

A new roof could be put on for $3K-$5K with labor and materials and get you down the road another 15-20yrs..

Now which is the better "bargain"?

That roof is pretty well over the hill, no coating is going to put any more life back into it and slathering coatings on it will only get you a couple more years and then will most likely need to have the coating redone.

I would suggest getting a price to reroof and a price to recoat, then compare the cost between the to methods and take into account that the roof coating life will be short.

Just make sure whatever product you use, it WILL adhere to EPDM. Most coatings take a primer or a catalyst. Read the fine print!

There is probably a representative of this company in your area and would most likely be the best way to go. It is possible to do it yourself as seen in this thread and also how I did it myself (with the help of my son and grandson) as posted here.

For your “support” I offer that recoating your roof isn’t that difficult. Buy Hengs or some other brand and do it yourself.
