Locked in by entry door handle I found the fix?

Earlier this month a person was concerned about getting lock in their RV by the entry door rail handle thing and getting lock in.

Fast forward to today...I was doing a search trying to find and order a gasket for mine and ran across "the fix".

Thought it would be helpful and posted under General RV Issues being most RV's now have them now. Reference is for 2011 but should apply IMO. Maybe I'll start reading that blog also?

  • Path1,

Thanks for a couple of possible solutions. Hopefully others will find this useful as well.
Nice to know I am not the only one who has considered this possibility.

I like my handle to hold the door closed when I travel. There's a better chance of a tree falling in front of the door then someone turning that handle. You could find a lot better things to worry about if you like to worry.

You should fix your door latches so you don't need to rely on handle to keep it closed when in transit.

The latch is good and the door hasn't opened yet but it gives me something to worry about.

Lots of travel handles can not be flipped opposite direction due to slide outs, awning arms etc being located on opposite side of door.
Handles can only be flipped across door when in transit for those rigs.

Besides......most folks have found hat the handle does not prevent door from being pushed open.
And if it does..just round off top of 'U' on bracket so handle is easy to move from travel position

I also like K.I.S.S. vs reinventing.

I agree knocking that edge off would make a big difference. Probably the ones that can get locked in have the handle mounted too close to the door increasing the leverage required to over come the spring.
