Long Island NY Dealer??

Hello everyone,
I am a second generation travel trailer owner and ready to bite the bullet and buy a new trailer for the first time. After reading a lot of posts by others, it is clear that the dealership customer service is almost more important than the trailer. this is strange to me, only because I am used to doing all my own work on my TT. But, OK.....!!! it looks like WES trailers and Grand Am RV are really my only 2 options around here. Does anyone have any personal experiences working with either dealership.

and At the same time I am considering the Sunnybrook sunset Creek 298BHS. I see they are made by Winnebago. My kids are very young so this has to be a 10-15 year trailer!!!! how are the ratings?

thanks

  • That was Camper's Barn before CW bought it and they were always great folks there, so if they kept the same team I'm not surprised. Sorry to hear that about Grand Am, of course we haven't dealt with them in 7 yrs, so who knows what changed.

Regarding Sunnybrook, our last TT was a 2002 Sunnybrook 3310 4-bunk model. At the time, Sunnybrook was known for their top quality aluminum frame and fiberglas skin construction. Best trailer made at the time, right up there with Nash and Arctic Fox products. Quality went downhill in mid-2000's, they introduced their first line of tin-sided TT's, the Sunset Creek brand. Sunnybrook wasn't even on our short list when we bought the Terry in 2007.

The Sunnybrook facility was bought by Winnebago and they making trailers in the old SB plant under the Winnebago brand.

If you are shopping for a Sunnybrook, anything before 2005 should still be in good shape.
  • We tried to buy a trailer from Grand Am and they never returned calls. Went there and it took forever to get someone to help then when we called back to make an offer, never got a return call. I dont know how they stay in business except by renting trailers. Looked online and Camping World in Kingston had what we wanted and they took a deposit until we could make it up two weeks later. As we were coming from LI I asked that they prep the trailer for the road, as "subject to my inspection" we were driving away with it. Its a fast 3 hours from Suffolk County. Got there and they had to address a few items and we had our salesman and a tech the whole time. They even mounted my reese dual cam for free.

Instead of driving home we spent the night in Newburgh KOA and discovered an issue witht he toilet. We could have turned around but instead drove home and they shipped a new toilet, not parts, a new toilet.

Ive seen alot of CW bashing but it comes down to people our salesman and the tech were first rate and I would buy there again.
  • We bought 3 trailers from Grand Am including our current one. The facility is a little worn out, but they stay around in lean times by not overspending in good times. Good folks to do business with and would again if we had the opportunity. I also do a lot of my own work on the TT, but we had a warranty issue with our current Terry when it was new, where it had to go back to the factory, and they were great to deal with on that. I know WES has been around for a while but don't know much about them.

Stay away from Eddy's on Horseblock Rd, they got in deep soup with GE on floorplanning and now I understand they are just blatantly ripping off customers. Most of it is around "free" estimates for repairs, which they then charge for, and if you don't pay they charge you $200/day to store the unit until you do pay. Not sure why they are still in business.
