Looking back at 2015. Do you?

Does anyone look back at photos and videos of old trips? In the past we'd take photos and occasionally look at them, but for the most part they gathered dust on our hard drive.

Now that we started posting videos we tend to look through them a bit more, but I just did a "2015 Year in Review" video and got to look back through everything from the whole year. It's amazing how much we've done in a single year and we all sat around laughing and smiling as we watched. It was a great addition to the start of the new year and I think we'll be doing this from now on as we plan for the next year.

Here's a link to our 2015 video if interested. https://youtu.be/i6aFOIuHyEE

And our corresponding blog post. http://www.rvcircus.com/our-2015-year-in-review/

  • Similar to RVcircus, we capture pictures and put them into a slide show mixed with music and put them on a DVD. When we leave for a trip, we bring a couple DVD from earlier trips. It is amazing how much we forget over time. It is really fun watching them.
  • I was just looking through a photo album with my mom over the weekend. It's a shame that my children won't have the same. We have albums, but they all pre-date the kids. We have some actual photos of our first child, but she was at the very tail end of film photography.

We were just talking about this yesterday. I must have thousands of pictures on the hard drive. That I swore I would download to a CD and label and file, which of course I didn't. :(

I think about everyone's children/family that are going to miss out on looking at an album of their family history and also learning about the history.

I know I 'really' enjoyed looking at my parents albums with real pictures of their parents, them growing up and of course all of us growing up.

I think it's sad that that part will now all be missing. There was even some talk a while back that even if you put it on CD the tech guru's are not even sure how long CD's will last over the course of time. Or if there will be a computer that will read them!.

Just feel that with the onset of technology a lot of history might not ever really be recorded.
  • I have the same problem...I think I bumped my head too many times. We started our blog so that we could look back and share with friends and family. Without something, I'm afraid it'll be lost in that rattled brain of mine:)

You bet! My recall is poor, rely heavily on queues to remember things.

Because of this, I put efforts into documenting our trips with a travel log (in a spreadsheet) where I can also pull mileage and counts. I reference the weather, route, people we've met, places we've seen, comments about the site we had (or the site we hope to have next time we go to that park). Stirs memories of the trip, very helpful. The pictures we take are in folders by year, nested in each are reference to the month and place or activity so we can find them easily.

And no, I'm not OCD. I'm CDO ... gotta' get the letters in the right order. :R
  • We have a couple of digital picture frames that constantly rotate through about 5 years of travel photos. We often find ourselves watching them and trying to remember when/where each picture was taken. If nothing else, it's good mental exercise... :)
  • We have as many or more photos, slides and JPEGs as anyone, do we look at them, hardly ever. The JPEGs we do look at on occasion. When we do look, we laugh, smile and on occasion cringe and when we're through we often say it's fun and we've got to do this more often and we never do.

I've got several banker boxes of photographs dating back to the tintype era. None of the family know any of those folks nor do they want to sit and look at them.

Seeing as how I am the oldest living member of my family that is not demented, I hate to dispose of them in the dump but if no one cares?????????

  • We look back at photos often. And, usually when I see them I just smile and think about that trip. When my MIL was getting forgetful in her 90s, I picked out 12 of our best pictures with our children on them, a put together a calendar for the new year. That way, she always remembered our kids as she viewed the calendar. It turned out that all of the family members wanted this calendar and has become somewhat of a tradition.

This year, after a summer trip to Alaska, I used Shutterfly to put together a book of favorite pictures with some narrative for the family. It was a huge hit.
  • Absolutely. Some trips stand out more than others also.

As mentioned above, I also have a poor recall and find myself smiling often when I see the photo memories.

We have enjoyed wonderful experiences, feel fortunate to have them to look back on.

  • No, I don't sit and look at old photos.
But, I do think about the warmth of summer, especially today. 9 degrees and a high of 30. :(
