Low bridge Duck.

I use the Low Clearances POI on Delorme Street Atlas. It's very helpful in avoiding roads with headbangers. Updates seem to come every few months.

The database includes low clearances under 16 ft, and as our rig is under 12 ft, there are a lot of alerts I don't need, so I edit the file.

Doesn't cost all that much, either.

I use that on my Garmin... you can adjust how far in advance you want it to warn you... make sure you set it it warn you with enough time to exit the road you're on so you can find an alternate road before you have no way out.

I bought that program for a TomTom GPS some time back. The big problem then, and they could have corrected it since, is that it will warn you of low clearances ANYWHERE within the distance you set, even if the low clearance is on another road or street, not just on the road you are traveling! This is very annoying if you're on an interstate going through a big city! :S

I think your travel trailer is about 10' 4", but to be sure you have to climb up and measure it from the highest point. Once you know exactly what it is, I'd post it on my dashboard or visor so it is visible when I needed to know.

As far as knowing how high low clearances are, as a old time retired truck driver, I watch the signs that are posted before you get to them, and on them. They are all marked unless over 14 foot. The ones you really have to watch out for are the canopies at gas stations, fast food drive thrus, and banks. Those are usually marked too. Oh, the logs over entrances to Walmart and other stores parking lots too! And even those are usually marked too. And even those are marked Have not bothered with any of the POIs for GPS units. But I do have them on my Streets and Trips GPS mapping system. If I find one I can't fit under, I find a way around it. And I have not found many I can't fit under and I at least a foot higher than you.

There are a lot more low clearances listed on the http://www.lowclearances.com software than there is listed on the POI listings from what I have researched.

IT doesn't matter how high they are my dw ducks every time we go under one. From NY to FL 4 times and she still ducks. It keeps me laughing. Happy camping and try not to over think everything. Dave

I've found that many of the POI's available for the Garmin at POI Factory are very inaccurate. Some POI's are 30 miles off the programed locations. You really can't assume that the people who supply the info is qualified to read a map :)

That reminded me of our Great Dane that would duck down for every over pass while in our MH.

She isn't the only one!!! I duck too, cause I nailed one way back right after I got back from Vietnam. First day on the job (only day on that job) too. Peeled the whole trailer's roof off! Boy, thought I was going to nail that VW tailgating me:R? That is when I decided to start reading the low clearance warning signs before I got under the underpass!!! Never nailed on after that:W, but I still cringe!!!

wny_pat First thing I did when I got the camper home was to get the ladder out with a 2x4 and a tape measure. It is 10' 4". I rented a motor home quite a while ago. The AAA trip tick was put together by an idiot. I specifically told the guy I had a high vehicle and did not want any surprises. The second day on a 10 day trip I was checking the route and i found 2 low overpasses he had set for me. I checked every day after that and every day there was at least one low bridge. Since then I always check for low overpasses when i am on a trip .
