LowClearances.com, anybody use it?

I am traveling the northeast to look at fall colors and am worried about low clearances. I did do some search and read the reviews about the Garmin 760 product.

I also came across this website:

http://www.lowclearances.com/

It seems cheap enough, and apparently just downloads onto most GPS units.

It sounds good, but sometimes when stuff sounds too good to be true, it is.

Anybody know anything about this software?

    I went ahead and ordered the RM truckers road atlas. Also swallowed hard, bit my tongue and ordered the 400 dollar Garmin RV760. So I will have these two references, and will make a point to check my trip route before I leave.

    Going next week to look at the fall colors in the Northeast, so am hoping all places I want to go aren't filled with low clearance bridges.

    For those who don't know, you can check for low clearances on your GPS before you leave. Here's how I do it on my Garmin:

    1. Put in your destination
    2. Select "where to" again
    3. This time, click the button "near" and select "search along my route"
    4. Go to your custom POIs and select low clearances
    5. And there you go! It will tell you if there are any low clearances along the route!

    A low clearance POI is not going to help you when you find out there is no exit ramp before the low clearance after the alert on your GPS. You want an RV or truck GPS that will route you around these low clearances to avoid them - not let you know there is one ahead when it is too late.

    Low clearances are a particular problem in the Northeast.

    I use the Rand McNally Road atlas that the truckers use. I know that is always up to date. I always route our trip before we ever leave

    For free you can download low clearance databases from poi factory. I use their database on my garmin and microsoft streets and trips. I particularly like using streets and trips with the database as I can visually survey my route and see any issues before the days travel. As far as I'm concerned, garmin devices are not particularly user friendly for route planning and review.

    Yes it is useful, not it is not exactly the same as how I understand the "RV/Truck" specific GPS units work


    Thanks. For only 14 dollars, it sounds like it might be useful.
    Once it gives you an alert, can you specifically look on one's GPS, and tell where the low clearance is?
