The whole thing is a mess . . . and I surely don't have any answers, or solutions.
With housing being WAY overpriced, stagnant wages and other increases to cost of living, consumers discretionary income is stretched to its limit. This forces them to look for ways to make the best use of their money with aggressive price shopping.
Combine this with U.S. companies (and investors) constant quest for higher profits and earnings (hence, producing goods elsewhere) and it's hard to see a way to stop the vicious cycle.
