New Trend?

Anyone else noticed how many coaches pull into their sites rather then backing in?
I know some do it to take advantage of a view, but that means you're now sharing a front yard. And your dog has a fit every time they leave their rig, and they want to chat.
Not that we're antisocial but one of the joys of the RV lifestyle is enjoying the quiet of the outdoors in the privacy of your campsite.
Just wondering.
  • This old warhorse never wants to back out of a spot when leaving. Some dope could park in a way....
  • I've seen it many, many times in Indiana State Parks. Not just motor homes, but TT's and 5er's too. It does look odd. But almost always it because they are traveling with another camper and they are parked side-by-side.

On one occasion, at a county campground located along a river, we had a motor home pull in beside us (door side of our camper). We were backed in, they pulled in forward. Nice folks. But I did take opportunity when the time was right and asked why they pulled in forward.

They said they pulled in forward so they could see the river out the front (windshield), that if they backed in, the view would just be the camper across the road because they didn't have windows in the back of their camper like "WE DID!"... um... at the time, our Springdale had a rear storage area, like an small garage! No window in the back at all. (but the front didn't have a window either). I didn't argue with him, I was just trying to find out why he did what he did. I did make the comment to him, that when he had a moment to take a look at the back of our camper. We parted peacefully, and that was the last time we spoke. They pulled out the next day.

Ever since then, I've noticed when folks are pulled in the opposite, but never made any kind of issue about it.

Funny, when we had our pop-up, we'd turn it all kinds of directions so the door was facing, sometimes toward the back, and sometimes, toward the road. That was the nice thing about a pop-up. Put the wheel on the tongue jack and it could be pushed anywhere! (Kind of miss that, but not enough to ever go back to a pop-up though).
  • The campgrounds where I stay have angled pads and one way roads, so it's never been a problem for me.

However, at one campground, a group of families drove in the wrong way and parked their cars front-in. During about 6 hours, they drove out the wrong way at least 3 times. The ranger got called out and made them turn their cars around.

RVparks are different because they usually don't have the angled pads.
  • There are several state parks where we drive in a back-in site to enjoy the view. A few sites at Ft Clinch SP in FL comes to mind, as well as a specific site we favor in Robert Moses SP n upstate NY. And there's a site at Edisto Beach SP in SC that just about every motorhome that parks on it goes in backwards. Or at least they used to. We'll have to see what the configuration is after the hurricane damage repairs are completed next fall. In all of those cases the sites are either far enough apart or next to other sites where motorhomes usually park backwards that the outside "living space" is not an issue. All in all, I don't see it as a problem when there's enough site spacing. It beats the heck out of a view of the front window of the motorhome across the road from your site.
  • I don't like having someone elses sewer connections in my front yard either.
  • If a rig pulling in to face the view puts them in your front yard, The best solution is to find a more isolated site. The campsites we like best are the ones where there is no one close enough to make any difference.
  • I'm willing to be that the only time coach's pull in face first is if that are at sites that are designed for them to park that way. I don't know of any campground that would let them park that way UNLESS, the person on the other site was traveling with them and they GOT PERMISSION ahead of time.
