There has always been debate about getting your RV trailer inspected in Texas. While the law has always been on the books, very few (me included)ever did it. My trailer did not even come with an inspection sticker when new.The state has put a stop to all that, effected March 1st. You will have to have a successful inspection in the electronic database before the state will renew your license plates. There is a special process for out-of-state RV'rs. I assume it's the former but I learned long ago not to assume.

Trailer inspection has been on the books for years. The change is mainly aimed at false license and inspection stickers that are a sizable industry here in Texas. Along with fake driver licenses it's a major problem here. I don't think the fees have gone up, but I could be wrong. People will need a valid inspection that is electronically transmitted to the state. Without it the vehicle can't be licensed. I'm for it if only because it will remove a lot dangerous vehicles from the roads.

They tend to be pretty corrupt. I was once told that "inspecting" my Jeep J-20 would cost $100. He didn't need to see the truck, just the money! (At the time, the fee for a state inspection was $20.)

Also, there is no longer a sticker that is applied. That is the big change in all this, the inspection is reported electronically to the state for access when we renew our license plates. If they try to put a sticker on your trailer they don't know what they're doing.

Please take a little time and call TXDOT and complain about the specific dealerships that refuse to do inspections. They need to know about places not complying with their inspection license requirements.

When I got mine inspected they told me the sticker was the same one used for motorcycles. I would think that most inspection stations would have them.

We get 6 months of arctic and 6 months of temperate temps in PA. Leads to catastrophic road decay, bridge failures, serious damage to vehicles and trailers. I'm for yearly inspections.

Looks like the local RV places are doing their usual games. Several I have called in the Austin area will refuse to do a state inspection on any rig unless it was purchased through them. At least the dealer I bought mine through is doing them, and Camping World will appreciate the business.

36 years a TX resident, 13 years FULLTIME. Minimum changes: when in TX, I get inspections timely, renew registration online: when out of TX, inspection expired, renew registration online & certify that the vehicle is out of state. Cost is the same, only split as stated in earlier post. I do have neighbors in this park who didn't know that their FW's or TT needed inspection.

Your 38' fiver will fit into any inspection that does truck inspection. The fee is $7.00 to the station at time of inspection and a $7.50 fee added to registration at the Courthouse. The fee is the same as it has always been,$14.50. It is just split between the two places now.
