- azrvingExplorerI just notice some of the normal traits that are everywhere. Cigarette butts everywhere. Don't laugh at the idea of a five center each deposit. Think about it.
One baffling thing that I noticed was a guy in high dollar rv running a gen 12 hours a day. Yes, the rules allowed operation from 8 to 8 so it's no ones business but his but just using my fingers and doing some simple rough calculations it would seem like he would have opted for the full hook ups for $32.00 instead of the dry camp for $24.00?
For eight dollars a night he listened to a generator for 12 hours a day, put hours on gen, bought fuel for gen, take gen in for maintenance etc. There was no a/c running. Maybe he had some special medical needs? Still baffling but not my business. How would I handle it? Not say a word, it's within the rules. Say he approached me and said wow I noticed you only ran your genny an hour or so today. I would then participate in discussing his situation. I would ask a few questions about being sure the water levels are up, offer to use my meter to check voltages etc. I'd even help him pull any bad batteries if he wanted to replace them. Heck yeah, lets cruise into town and get one.
I would never put my nose in first. Doing so plants a seed in his mind that the gen running all day is an issue. He has a right to run it with not ONE word being said. If he opened the door I would do everything I can to help. I recently needed to do a long charger on my bank and I wanted to do it with my good battery charger, not my converter or TV. I just planned it out so the gen was running while traveling, not sitting in the campground.
Cig butts? Dog doo? Paper? Litter? Plastic burning? You wont stop it because there are just inconsiderate ignorant people out there. It's pretty much a hit or miss thing like much of life. Sometimes it's your turn in the barrel. We can try to address it with the management but it may be an overwhelming task depending how bad this particular turn in the barrel is.
So.....many people like me prefer to lessen the chance of exposure to these people by searching out remote, less used places. It has even crossed my mind to have a little piece of property where its warm just to boon dock on.
Kids are kids and we were all one at one time. What can you do.
Many things would be better if people stopped and thought about others first. That's the problem, they think of only themselves.
Even if I'm at home and I want to do something I stop and think about it. If I'm going to run a circular saw I look around and see if the seasonal people are up and sleeping in today. Sure the building code says I can start work at 6:00 am but I wait till 9:00 or 10:00. I just get everything ready and do all quiet stuff first. - robsouthExplorer IIHere's a plan. Next time out, call ahead and reserve the entire campground for just you. Problems solved. Happy trails..
- 2012ColemanExplorer IIOver the last 3.5 years, I've camped in state aand private CG's in FL and the surrounding states. I've never had the any of the experiences in the rant threads I see on here.
Once, my site was a wreck upon pulling in. I called the office and the staff came out right away awash in apologies.
At Blue Springs, SP, the breaker on the pole was defective - it would not stay on. Called the office and 2 rangers were dispatched and had it fixed just as I was finishing setup outside.
Another time, I saw someone letting their dog poop at the entrance to my site and begin to walk away. I asked if he would please pick up as my then 3 year old played in the area - gave him a bag as he explained he had not brought enough with him on his walk - so I gave him 2. Made small talk - very pleasant. Totally understood as somehow my dog poops multiple times on a walk and you can run out of bags. Was invited to hang out for beers and snacks as we were walking by his site later that evening.
I look at peoples setups while strolling and they look at mine. Friendly waves are always exchanged. Heck, I look at TT's going down the road and catch up if possible. I collect pictures of old cars pulling old TT's.
I've walked by rigs where the little yappers are going beserk and just laugh as my son likes to mimick them which embarasses the hell out of the owners. I've been next to people who's dog barks when people walk by - that's what dogs do. My well trained pooch will be silent after I tell her "no barking".
I sit aroung my fire pit at night and roast marshmellows and have awesome conversations with family. I could care less about your lights or music. I'm there to have fun and I don't let the small stuff bother me.
Sorry y'all can't have more fun while camping. - oldmattbExplorerHere's one from BLM mixed-use land!
Some guy sets up a shooting table with an M1 shotgun TEN FEET from my RV (less than 50 feet from the road) and starts target practice. (Rangers checked his ID, paperwork on all of his arms, and escorted him to the highway.)
Matt B - paulcardozaExplorerYou don't rent a site 15 feet from other groups if people on all sides of you and expect total peace and quiet. If it's all about you, go boondock somewhere where there are no other people.

People who think that just because they RENT a site they can do absolutely anything they want to and be as obnoxious and inconsiderate as they possibly can because after all .... its all about THEM and their good time and to hell with everyone else. You only RENT the space your camping on and the property owner has the right to expect a certain level of behavior and respect to other campers from their guests. It is THIER business, not YOURS they are running and want everyone to have a pleasant time. Why is it that basic consideration of others is such an imposition on some people??? - DtaylorExplorerYou forgot to mention the door slammers
- discovery4usExplorerWhat gets my goat is the neighbor that stares out the window and won't come join me as I get drunk watching the noisy kids chase the barking dog through everyone else's campsites while the DW yells at me to turn down the music, pick up the cigarette butts, pick up the dog doo from yesterday, and get the BBQ and fire started :B .
I love being out in the RV and am a people watcher so I find entertainment in watching how fellow campers do the daily camping tasks. Setting things up too close to my MH does get my goat. I just don't understand why people set there chairs, EZ ups, grills, and even park their vehicles within inches of their RV's or worse my RV.
We had one trip in the FW when I woke up to the smell of bacon and thought how wonderful, the DW is up early and making breakfast. I rolled over to see her fast asleep so I got up to track down this delicious smell and found the neighbors who came in late decided to set their Coleman stove up directly under my bedroom slide so it would be protected if it rained. After a brief discussion regarding the grease splatter on the side of my FW and the delicious smoky bacon smell entering into my bedroom they complied and moved the stove. Well I guess that brings up goat #2, they didn't even share any bacon with me:( - YamaDooedExplorerWhat really gets me is those quiet dark campgrounds with no pets and kids and friendly neighbors... If I wanted all that peace I might as well stay home...

Ummmmmm
You left out generators and porch lights.
The porch lights I can take, but some folks are just plum scared of the dark and should find some pastime that suits them better. If you have to light up your campsite like an airport runway all night you have a problem.
did my first night landing a few week ago and I WISH the runway had been lit up like some of the campsites we've seen. :)
