- ctilsie242Explorer IIThe Champion 4000 is definitely in a different category than the 3000-3400 watt inverters.
I have a Champion 4000. Noise aside, it easily starts my A/C (there is a brief bit for about half a second where it pauses, then the compressor starts, but a lot less than the bogging down my previous generator had. It also seems to be very simple and reliable.
However, the noise is so off-putting that once I get myself a replacement inverter generator that can start my RV's A/C, the 4000 watt Champion will be relegated to backup duty. - mich800Explorer

Amazon is doing some very interesting marketing with the Champion generators as prices have been all over the place this week for the various models. Even our resident experts cannot keep all the variations figured out. Amazon would not want to benefit from all the confusion this creates. Would they?
Remember, Amazon has a wide range of sellers all competing for the buy box. Amazon direct, manufacturers, distributors and independent sellers. And when you get some sellers playing with their pricing or bundling you can see some weird things happen. Either way Amazon will get their cut. - MrWizardModeratorWell DPs sound quiet to the driver
Because the engine is in the rear
A gas pusher would be just as quiet to the driver
A diesel PU, is best compared to A FRED class A ? Or a gas PU
The only champ 4000 comment I saw was from Mel

This discussion is about the champion 3400 INVERTER generator,
But everybody keeps railing about the Honda 2000I
A smaller generator, but it is arguable Hondas most popular generator
You know perfectly well that the best comparison is between different category items. Someone told me I should purchase a diesel because they are so quiet but the 1991 Dodge Cummins was pretty loud. All Chrysler diesels are far too loud. - Mel_B_ExplorerRead again MR. Wizard
Someone brought up the 4000 and two people commented. - MrWizardModeratorThe champ 4000 is not the INVERTER generator being discussed here

- Mel_B_ExplorerI have a Champion 4000 a Yamaha 1000 and a honda 2000 those of you that say champion is not louder then a Honda is in a sreius state of denial. My wife bought me the champion for me for fathers day 4 years ago, otherwise I would have returned it. Genorators are great and I use one everytime we go camping, We Boondock But I'm tired of the noise. Even the yamaha that just sounds like a hum in the 5th wheel, so I'm installing a 400 watt solar system and a 2000 watt inverter. I'll still bring a GEN. but hopefully it won't be needed. BTW the champion runs great to this day, it gets more use by others when I loan it out, It's just to much noise. When I camp I don't like noise.
Mel - TomG2ExplorerI don't work for Champion or Amazon, but they have the Non-electric start 3100/2800 watt inverter generator on sale today for $590. Save a few pounds and a few dollars for those that don't mind a recoil starter.
