Over nite at truckstops

While a RV has a bed, it is usually already occupied by a man and a woman so not prime territory. In ten years and probably 15 times using a truck stop (arriving late and leaving early) I have never seen single women roaming around. I rarely go inside and have never had any problems. I do get out and do a walk around before taking off, but I do that everywhere, not just truck stops or rest areas. I've probably stayed in rest areas 10 times in ten years without any problems too.
I have found Sam's Clubs a quieter option than Wall-Mart but I usually arrive after it has closed and leave long before it opens. Did this in Valdoster, GA last week where there were probably 20 RVs at the W-M and I was the only one next door at Sam's.

I know for a fact that they aren't "everywhere" because I've stopped at plenty of truck stops and driven through the parking lots and I haven't seen any lot lizards. So they can't be "everywhere." Maybe I just didn't see them because they were busy with clients, I have no idea.

I don't doubt for a moment that they are out there, I'm simply trying to gauge the extent of the "problem." Have you personally seen them? For every 100 trucks, how many lot lizards are roaming the lot? How often is a trucker woken up in the middle of the night by someone knocking on their window? I'm sorry to question the conventional wisdom here, but this all seems like hype to me.

Only stayed overnight in a truck stop once. It was in Minnesota, in the middle of nowhere, where there were literally no campgrounds (of any type) around for another 100km, at 9pm, with 2 young kids. We were running slow, and didn't make it nearly as far as I'd hoped, and this was the only option.
Parked in the farthest back corner, and still woke up to a big rig parked so close I could barely open the tt door. It was noisy, but considering how tired we all were after 14hrs on the road, we slept pretty well. Filled up with gas in the morning and drove on.

A few years ago I stopped at a Love's Truck Stop off I-81 in PA at around 1 am. I asked the kid behind the counter if they had RV parking. He told me they don't have spots specifically for RVs, but I could park with the trucks if I wanted. He cautioned me that the other night a big camper pulled in towing a car. The next morning, the car's tires were flat.

Is that true? I have no idea, but after finding only 1 truck spot left, I decided to find a KOA. Truck Stops are for trucks. If they have RV spots, park there. Let the truckers take a break. They need it.

We use Wal-Marts for quick overnight stops. Much quieter and there's a Wal-Mart there in case we need anything. Most have security that patrol the lot.

Worst thing that ever happened to us at a truck stop:
Woke up in the morning and a cattle hauler was parked next to us. I don't know which was more disgusting, the flies or the smell. We couldn't pull out fast enough.

Usually we will stop at a rest area. They tend to be quieter.

Are you speaking from personal experience here or simply typecasting truck stops?

I know the media and these forums love to portray truck stops as brothels, but I haven't seen any evidence of this in the real world, have you?
