Partitions what is the purpose?

We have had several rv's and all have had partitinons, located under
cabnets.

Our 2014 Jayco Octane has two under the kitchen cabnet were the water pump and various pipes are located. There two thin wood partitions. I took the partitions out and now all the pipes and such can be seen.

What are the partitions purpose?

  • Depending of where the partitions are located there MAY be another reason. Our first 5th wheel was rated for XXXX pounds or XXX square feet of storage. Granted I could have piled lead ingots in the basement storage area and exceeded the weight limit. However, I saw the back wall of the basement was 6 inches forward of the right side storage access door.

The water pump was in a space just inside that right access door and the pump "partition" was part of the rear wall. When I took the full height water pump access panel off I could see a factory aluminum frame 6 inches aft of the back basement wall. The area about a foot aft of the water pump was under a coat closet/storage area just inside the door to the trailer.

Took most of a day but I moved the water pump into that space under the "hall closet" and moved the back wall to the factory almunium stem wall. Gave us enought room that the huge folding DW needed would now fit in the basement and we no longer needed to store them on the bed.

Yeah, there have actually been complaints on here that there were no partitions protecting easily damaged plumbing in storage locations. Some would think you were lucky. ;)
  • They are to add more weight and reduce profit for the manufacturer. You have dropped necessary weight, unfortunately you still incurred the cost. Next time remove them before purchase and demand to have that $2 in parts removed from your quote.

    1) You have a new RV
    2) You remove the partitions
    3) Then you ask what they are for.

I hope you never need any warranty service that involves those partitions or what it is they're put there to protect.

    Primitive Pete!...:R

On edit: You should have added...from post & sig:

    a) You have had several RVs - all had partitions.

    b) You have been RVing since 2000.

    1 & 2)

    3) *Then* - you ask what they are for..:S

    And, OP.....
don't you wish you hadn't started a thread with that question? - ROTFL

    Good entertainment value, though!..:B

For aesthetic reasons and to prevent sensitive components from being damaged by stored items that could come in contact with them.
