How true. A good example is when you arrive at a stop sign and the other driver has the right of way, but they signal you go first. Drives me kind of crazy.

I have tried that. Most people just sit there, then make their move too late when they finally figure it out.

Geez, you had to go and remind me of how many times the wife tells me my turn signal is on. :)

I simply maintain my speed and when it becomes safe for them to make their pass I move slightly to the right (without vacating my lane). This gives them a hint that it is time to make their move and a much improved view of what is coming down the road. The rest is up to them.

I will blink my lights for truckers (or RV'ers), if they are being pressed by following traffic to indicate I am comfortable with them moving back over after passing. Most trucker appreciate this courtesy gesture and often respond with the "Thank You" signal of blinking their tail lights.

Given the relatively small number of folks who even know what a turn signal is, much less the proper use thereof I never assume/bet my life that they will get it right even if it is blinking. :S

....and then there are the lawyers out there waiting to jump on one of these cases after a wreck.

Trust the judgement of no other driver, especially if your vehicle is making the abnormal move. That includes passing, left hand turns, or any situation where questionable right of way is involved. You can't prove after the fact that any other driver signaled to you that they were yielding right of way and they CANNOT give you the right of way of a third party.
