I've used lots of different wood over the years, such as almond, walnut, peach, etc. I was recently givin a load of pear wood, which I've never used before. I'm assuming it burns pretty much the same as all the others. Have any of you ever burned pear before?

Have not burned it but would think that it would be very similar to apple.

I use it in my woodstove at home. Pear is almost as hard as oak. The pieces I get are from pruning so they are not very big around, but I think they would be great for a campfire.

Most fruit tree woods are good for cooking and fires. I have never tried pear though

Had two Bradford Pear trees just fell over( they were huge) cut 'em up found they split real good and burn good no poppin' ect...

Dang, we have a pear orchard. About half Anjou's and half Bartlet's. They've just finished doing the heavy pruning for the next growing season, and there's pear wood all over the orchard. I use it for smoke cooking. Maybe I should chuck some on the wood lathe.

i've eaten sausage cooked on a grill over 'apricot' wood

i would only waste 'pear' or other fruit wood for heat , only in an emergency

use it for cooking or smoking

I have pear trees and use the trimmings for BBQ'ing. It has a heavier and less sweet flavor than Apple wood but close. If you have a sausage maker or someone that smokes meat in your area, you might be able to trade the Pear wood for finished meat products, a better deal than using it for firewood. Since it isn't a very dense wood, it will burn like Ash or akin to soft Maple. It is nowhere close to burning Red Oak or Maple.

I burnt pear wood a lot when living in Southern Oregon....never had a problem with it.

Pear (genus Pyrus) is in the Rosacea family, and has attributes similar to that of the Malus (apple) genus also in the rosacea family. It can be used for cooking/smoking similar to apple. It can also be used for furniture, but more often in musical instruments.

Down Homne: Thanks for the suggestion, but it was already cut into pieces that would have been too small for that type of project. Good thought though.
