Power Awning

For me, electric is just one more thing to break.

Manual. Many more options in regards to positioning. Manual does not imply "hard to do". My new mh has the 9100 and it works fine but unless I'm missing something it is either in or out. Just learning it so take what I say with a grain of salt. Have not figured out IF you can lower it, or have one side lower than the other.

I don't think the op is asking for manual or electric . He wants a electric and was wondering which is the best one.

Well he did ask what type of awning and why?

I would stay with manual instead of electric. Parts are cheaper and more available. You can buy parts for an awning arm on a manual. With an electric, you have to buy the entire arm (LH or RH). Sometimes you can get just the gas strut on the arm if need be. If you go electric, We usually try to match your slideout covers by brand if you have them, or we go with what would look best on the RV. Carefree and A&E are both good brands. Girard is good too, but harder to get parts for if you are stuck somewhere with a broken awning. Hope that helps.

We have had both and if I could I would go back to a manual awning. Already having motor issues on a two year old electric awning.

I'll stick with my Girard. It is the most bullet proof of the electrics.

I guess I am on the opposite side of the fence here. Love the automatic/electric and use it a lot more than the manual on the previous trailer. Why? Because manuals are a cumbersome PITA to deal with. FWIW mine is a factory installed Dometic.

I'd stick with the manual personally. The electric we have is a snap to put in and out, but it needs to be because it has to come in with the slightest breeze. It flops and bangs around with anything other than a very, very gentle zephyr.
