power Cords/Cables

The RV I am getting has a 50A power cord. Are there any places that only have 30A service available? If so, Should I get a 50A to 30A Adapter?

For those occasions a simple cord directly to your converter will keep the batteries charged while you run the coach on the inverter.

I do this often unless it's really hot and a/c is needed all day.
  • We travel with most every combination. Never know what you might find when lifting up the pedestal lid.
  • We run into many 30amp only older parks so a 50>30 amp comes in handy, we also have a 30>20 for our generator. Ran into a park in Ca that only had 20amp.

We also carry a 25ft 30amp extension for overnights when I don't want to unhook and will park where it's most level which may be too far from the power post for my 50amp cord.
  • I agree that 50 amp is very common. But get a 50 amp female to 30 amp male adapter and a 30 amp female to 20 amp male adapter. That covers all your bases. We have camped several times at a park in Colorado that only had 20 amp available. But at over 8,500', even in summer it is cool enough not to need A/C.

A 50 amp extension cord is not a bad idea either. Sometimes the power post is not in the best location to center your rig in your site without extra cord. Same goes for extra water hose and sewer hose.
  • Adapters are inexpensive...never leave home without a 50 to 30 and a 50 to 15/20 or 30 to 15/20.
  • A 30A to 50A actually, but yes, there may be a time when 50 is not available. I do think with 50A more common now, it is more likely you will find both available most times.
