Profiling your Salesman

I had a salesman a couple of weeks ago show me a coach, it had four slides I thought. I asked him and he said it only has three. But after looking I found one that was still in...haha.....

I cant say I have this issue. HAHA. I work as a RV "Sales man"

Solving the questions: First guy you see when you come in the door? This is a way of keeping it stress free. No one likes a bunch of sales people standing around the door when they arrive at a dealer. So they rotate salesmen at the door to keep it low stress.

If you don't like a salesmen the best thing you can do is return on his/ her off day and buy from someone else, you can also ask to speak with a sales manager or just ask for a different sales person. I myself don't work for a 2 teeth sales organization, but I do know the kind. I avoid working there.

For getting a good deal? that can be simple. There are dealers that mark it down and leave a few hundred dollars to play with and some that only show full top retail. This is when you need a sales person you can trust and know. Every persons story is different on buying. I don't want to open the can of worms on why every deal is different, but I will always help where I can.

I spent many years in sales and I was good at it. I hate dealing with non-professional slobs that don't don't care how they look or smell then act like they know everything about what they sell. I don't think they like dealing with me either because I don't put up with B.S.

I also understand how mad you can get. I have many years as a mechanic before doing sales. I know a lot of salesmen that have no clue what they are talking about. I myself never would buy before due to the level of stupidity I had to deal with. I either purchased on craigslist or not at all.

Part of the reason I got into sales was to help the folks that hate sales people.

X2! And this goes for cars as well.

I'll also say that the best sales people I have dealt with are the ones who hand you the keys and walk away while you look. They are also the first ones to admit when they don't know something about a product and have to go ask someone else. No shame in that and far better than making something up.

One "tell" that I always walk away from is when they call me "buddy" or make up a nick name to call me based on my first name. Nether professional nor genuine. You are not my "buddy" because I walked on your company's lot. Years ago I had a couple of deals go sour looking at cars and trying to deal with chumps like that. Never again.

The sales 'kid' that sold us our Jayco was young and very uninformed of anything in the RV world. However, he told us that right up front and said he'd find another salesman if we'd like. He had an easy sale though, we went in and told him the exact unit we wanted. I'll send him all the business I can.
The guy at the Ram dealer was a jerk and had me so mad I couldn't see straight. I would've walked for that alone but they had the best deal around.
My wife had to remind me that I wasn't there to find a new friend.

I'm the one who reads these threads religiously. I'm the one who knows our finances the best. I'm the one with the most camper knowledge. I'm the wife.

The last idiot who treated me like I was invisible got the "you're on your own, pal" look from my husband and a piece of my mind. And he didn't get the sale. That went to their competitor down the street.

Thanks to all perspectives from those that responded, but also thanks for your perspective as an RV salesman. I don't think I would have the patience to come back on their day off, but I could just try asking for someone else, or just walk away and go find someone else I guess. I can envision you guys shunning that gesture out of loyalty for each other, and I might get sent back to the original.

I do my research before even bothering to look, and I buy from abroad, but nothing beats the experience of just sitting in one to get the "feel". Unfortunately, on the bigger coaches they are limited to one or two inside, and there rest are locked, thus a salesman is required.

Right again, if they don't unlock every RV on there lot every day, they don't want to sell.
Me and my co workers unlock every RV every morning and allow free roaming of the lot.

I also tell every person that comes in, I don't care who you buy your RV from, but if you have a question you can call me for an answer. All that matters is that you get the RV that is right for you.

This is why I am an RV Consultant, not a salesman. I am here to help you buy not sell you something.

Usually we get stuck with the first one that hits the door, but I think I'm really going to start profiling and be obvious about it. I have been plagued lately with those I don't understand, those that have smokers breath or half their teeth, and the other day one with a huge belly that swung out in the open under his shirt tails under his coat when he walked. I mean skin! I'm not trying to be a jerk (maybe I am just a jerk), but it really distracts from what should be a reasonably high level experience and transaction.

It's bad when there is a Dealership, brand, or coach you want but you turn away because you didn't win the salesman lottery. :(

NOPE! There is NO 'tactic's involved. You are not held hostage for anything when it comes to buying a vehicle.
Buying a vehicle and/or RV is a VERY BIG investment.

YOU call the shots not a salesman.

You get a bad salesperson you walk right into the GENERAL MANAGERS office and ask for another one period. Not the Sales Manager you ask to see the 'General Manager'.

They do NOT want to loose a sale and you will most likely end up with that manager personally taking care of you and since they don't get a commission you will get a better deal on top of it.

And your original bad salesperson will get squat. So all in all the GM wins not having to pay a salesman....and you get treated like the valued customer you are. :C
