Progressive Insurance Problems with Claim

I hear you all and thank you for your comments.

Another question I have is why did they take my money and for replacement value at that if it was not insurable.

I had a new laminate floor put in last year. Everything has been taken excellent care of.

I contacted Illinois State department for Adjusting and the lady said I needed a certified expert in Motor Homes to write a letter stating the damage was caused by the storm and wind.

I have done that now it is a game of wait and see if he will write the letter then wait and see what the insurance company has to say.

I have also filed the forms on here.

Just a side note. The first of December I will turn 75 and my children have wanted me to quit driving my motor home for a long while. I told them next year I would be finished...

My son in law and one of my grandsons went to Pontiac and got my motorhome. Tim took pictures of the damage. They were nothing like what the insurance adjuster had taken. There is indeed delimitation of the roof (the insurance adjuster said they had to pull it up to inspect it.) I do see the stain where there is some water damage. This is all very sad.

Well I've been with Progressive longer than any other ins company to date since I dropped off my parents policy 20 yrs ago.
ONLY because they haven't screwed me....yet. Couple minor claims on my policy and a couple paid by the other driver's Progressive policy without any issues.
That said, they are like any other ins co and my day is coming. I am not and never have been high risk other than by default factors like age and marital status and have seen more shady insurance practices by top name companies that could fill pages here with the stories.
I imagine it's even worse now getting qualified since they take into account income and credit scores. Just like a dang mortgage!
If you got hosed by Pro, get some satisfaction telling them to kiss your a.... After you get and verify a new policy. Otherwise not much recourse.
One thing I learned was to get a new policy and wait a few weeks before canceling the old one. In case the new co hoses you worse right off the bat with a bait and switch on your quote.

I did have maintenance done in Florida Jan/Feb 2014... and have cancelled checks and pictures of the re sealing... on one of the checks I wrote roof on another I wrote roof repair by mistake... guess they go to the nitty gritty... I am praying they will pay to have my Jayco eagle 1998 27 ft Motorhome fixed... the inside is in pristine condition... has a new laminate floor in it... my home for as many as 6 months a year...

$11,000 to replace the roof on a 27ft Motorhome is outrageous!!!

We had the roof replaced on our 30ft fifth wheel last year, $4,000 bucks. Repair place was doing other work for us and had it partly off anyway so he gave us a discount. But it would have been $6,000 by itself.

So I think you should get some prices from other repair places. There has to be cheaper alternatives. Good luck, John

One takeaway from this discussion for me is to never ever buy an RV that doesn't come with a single piece of material (aluminum or fiberglass) used for it's roof ... so no complete coatings or overlays on the roof are ever required.

I was at an RV show last year in Richmond, VA. There was a company there (LineX or Rhino Liner) that had a couple of 5th wheels with the product on top. The said they remove the roof membrane and put on the product. It is white like the old roof and it never needs to be sealed and is very durable. May be an option...

We even lost a swimming pool in an earthquake decades ago and I talked them into replacing it with a better (more expensive) one than the original! In this same incident, we also lost a bunch of other stuff and the USAA agent wrote up every remotely claimable damaged item at their original full retail price so as to hit the deductable fast in order for the important damaged items would be fully covered.

If you have lived long enough you have been screwed by an insurance company. It is not an altruistic industry. The goal is to take in more in premiums than is paid out in claims. I was screwed by State Farm but I am sure there are many more that are satisfied with them. I have had good experiences with Progressive both in the premium level and their payouts on claims. But I know I am on borrowed time and it can change at any time. My recommendation is to find the cheapest premium as it is just a matter of time before the house wins.

I worked insurance claims for 5 years for another company.
I could not take the way they cheated everyone.
They are all alike, except I think Progressive is better than
most others.

They all will try to get out of paying.
Document everything:
All phone calls, conversations, e-mails, etc.
Who, what, when and where plus the time.

With your complete documentation from a professional
maintenance facility you chances of being covered will improve.

When all else fails, contact your State Insurance Commissioner
and you State Office of Consumer affairs.
Amazing what they will get done.


True story:
The father-in-law passed away and the mother-in-law filed
an insurance claim for insurance they had covering the loan
on their Bounder, which they bought in Fl. She checked with
her local bank manager to see make sure she was doing the
right thing. He agreed that the policy should payoff the
Bounder.

The insurance company denied the claim.
First they said the policy was improperly written by their agent.
Then they admitted did not have enough cash to pay it off.

I was living in Fl at the time. I contacted the then Attorney General
Charlie Christ. His office contacted the mother-in- law in Va.

Within 2 weeks not only did they pay off the Bounder, they wrote
her a check for several thousand dollars for overpayment of premiums.

It can be done. Be persistent.


We just changed everything to Progressive.

Thank you very much when the dust settles I will be contacting them as well as other agents.
My appeal was rejected they took highly magnified pictures of the damage and inside as well... I would have never lived in the MH if it had looked like these pictures show... I guess if you have a pimple and take a magnified version of it it would look like a mountain.
