Proposed law affecting rv'er'sz in Canada

Just like most of the US, Canada is a nice place to visit but I would not want to live there.

They really don't like us.
You buy property in Canada or Ontario anyway Americans have to pay an additional 20% tax, unless it has been repealed.
Americans can not get the mineral rights or water rights if they purchase either on Crown land.
At the time we were serious about buying, on Superior, I didn't find the additional tax and restrictions on Europeans.
You use to have to stay in Canada a minimum number, of days and produce receipts where you bought so much in groceries and provisions, and of course fees for your guns and you had to buy ammo, too, I believe up there, and of course you had to have a paid Guide to hunt there.
There is a segment that wants to keep Americans out.
I ate lunch with a Mayor of a small village, up there in the seventies.
They had the idea that Americans owed them and that we had somehow cheat them.
We should pay more when we came up there. I don't remember all the conversation, from so long ago.
Not all Canadians are like that. We spent many enjoyable holidays up there. And we still have some contact information for Folks that we haven't talked with in years.

3.7 sq miles is roughly 10 sq km.

In Canada crown lands are roughly analogous to U.S. National Forests or BLM public lands.

National Parks are the same as National Parks,

Provincial Parks are like U.S. state parks.

There is an assortment of wildlife refuges, ecological reserves, etc. just like the U.S. -- government owned lands administered for a single attribute rather than multiple use.

I don't think I understand, but does this mean if you park 13 feet from another camper boondocking on public land with 3.7 miles and they were there first, you are OK as far as this new proposed law is concerned? Wonder who carries the tape measure? But 12 feet or less is a violation? I also wonder who imposes the fine?

Oh well, that's more travelling dollars that their local surrounding businesses will lose out on from us for one.

We absolutely detest any companies/governments/businesses that have a two tier them and us rate. We monitor our spending and ironically, albeit a state of mind at the time, we've proved we spend more money in places that offer free or what we deem as reasonable rates, and treat us well feeling we are truly appreciated and welcomed as tourists/travellers.

Hubby loves fishing, and when we look at the rates for resident versus non-residents for licenses, we just don't support it if there's a huge anomaly between the two rates. Spoke to another BC Canadian who snowbirds and says because of that he waits till he's back in BC to fish only there.

We are in the process of disposing of most of our non-revenue generating real estate because of how crazy the taxation rates are. In 2008/9 Fla was begging for our Canadian dollars to buy real estate, now we are paying almost triple in property taxes what our "homesteader" neighbours are.

Obviously they don't want us to support businesses down there any more, so our travels will be diverted elsewhere as soon as it is sold. Probably selling to someone from Ohio, that will change their domicile to pay less, albeit they spend more time of the year at their Ohio home. Unfortunately an option we don't have being Canadian.

Oh well......... we all pay our money and make our choices. Our Provincial Parks have got so expensive to stay at now, we don't camp in any of them any more, and our allocation has gone from several hundred dollars a year to zero going to them.

Guess they feel that younger adolescents growing up with it will know no difference so at the end of the day they'll win out.

Sounds reasonable. Residents most likely already pay taxes, some of which goes to support of public lands. Visitors should pay as well. No different than in the U.S. where out of state campers often pay higher fees than state residents. Camping fees, hunting, fishing licenses, etc.

In parts of Hawaii, I actually felt like I was an unwanted foreigner. Not at the tourist resorts though, the want your money too badly.
