ready to replace awning

I'm ready to replace my 14 foot awning. What is the best material...vinyl, acrylic, Florida for 6 winter months, Will Vinyl crack? Any experience? pro or con?

  • A few years ago I had my vinyl - no metal guard - awning replaced with an acrylic fabric one with the metal guard.
I prefer the acrylic one. It dries faster and is easier to clean.

The only downside I have have found is that if you park under pine trees that are dropping sap it is harder to remove it from the fabric than from the non porous vinyl.

Daubing a lot of isopropyl alcohol on the sap did a good job on the sap but then had to wash the areas with detergent and water to remove the residue.
  • We just replaced our vinyl with acrylic. After research we decided on acrylic, it is lighter and is supposed to last longer. We also opted for the cover. We be testing it out for the first time next weekend. We used ShadePro for the purchase and install. $800.00 with tax for a 20' awning.

Can't advise you on the material...but I do suggest you consider the model with the metal wrap protector when it is rolled up. This will greatly reduce sun damage during storage and tree/limb damage that might scrap against the material when you are driving or parking in tight spots..

Agree with this...we have it on our Carefree.
We just had new toppers put on the slide and the large slide had a topper/window awning combo and it was acrylic.
Hope it does well as we are in Florida for six months too.
