Recurve r6 or equilizer?

Tv is 2014 ram 1500 outdoorsman
Tt is 14 solaire 163x

Both the equalizer and the r6 are local to me for installation. R6 seems newer. Any info on it or thoughts between the two?
  • Makes little difference. Since when is just being “newer” better?
  • I thought you were going Andersen in JUNE 2017?

“I would be pulling a 22' total length trailer with a gvwr of 5-6000lbs. Pulling with a 14 Ram 1500. Good to go with the Anderson?”

I have no experience with the Recurve R6 but having owned & used an Equal-i-zer myself for 6 yrs I'd suggest you read through this recent discussion (a.k.a. argument) :S which will remind you that Progress Mfg requires the use of an appropriately sized torque wrench to properly torque not just the hitch ball but also the head shank bolts. The hitch ball usually only needs to be done once but if you find the original setup isn't as good as it should be you'd have to pull the head apart once again in order to change the number of head washers that set the head angle. That means loosening / removing those shank bolts, which in turn means having the right torque wrench on hand in order to re-torque those bolts properly. In my case I did this more than 1/2 dozen times so access to an appropriate torque wrench was critical, despite what some pundits may claim and is contrary to what Progress Mfg requires in it's Equal-i-zer Installation Instructions.
  • Hmmm... I torqued mine down after I got the setup correct. I checked them annually a couple times after that. No movement what so ever. I've had mine over 13 years. But that Recurve model looks easy to adjust angle. Interesting way to engage/disengage sway control. I've never had a problem with it being constantly engaged though (aside from the slow speed noise :) ).
  • My Dual Cam system worked great for years. It did groan quite a bit when taking tight turns, but that's the nature of the beast.

This Eaz-Lift Recurve R6 system looks very interesting. I like the idea of the bars being up so there aren't any ground clearance issues. Also, I think I like the idea of the whole system rotating on the ball instead of the bars having to rotate inside the hitch head as you turn.

The Equal-Izer is certainly a proven hitch with many satisfied users. But the the new R6 looks like a nice option too.
