I too had 2 uncles who flew WWII RCAF as navs in bombers, they were both shot out of the sky over occupied France in different incidents. One gave some (escaped thru Spain) but unfortunately the other gave all (Heverlee War Cemetary, Belguim).
Lot of discussion here in Canada about making Nov 11th a National Holiday.
The company pres at a former workplace was a WWII vet who was shot up pretty bad "at the end of his war" told his staff that they could not have a Nov 11th holiday because he wanted to make sure every one observed the minute of silence. So, over the PA, at the 11/11 11:00 he made sure of that.
