Repair 4 diesel

I would just sell it and get another truck with a better motor in it. There are plenty available in all 3 brands from various years in a wide range of prices.

be careful of the powerstroke guy, he is pretty much a snake oil sales guy, talks a good story but according to knowledgeable folks!

I have a guy locally who is a master tech for ford and he does side jobs and is pretty inexpensive overall. He did my 04 for less than $3500 and brought the truck up to all the latest TSB's and I told him no flashes for the computer. The truck runs great and if I need repairs he will be my go to. I know you are back east of the miss river so all I can do is tell ya to find a good competent mech to do the work or maybe vacation someplace where there is one and turn the truck over to them. I was just talking to a guy here a few weeks ago and his 6.0 had to be rebuilt while being rebuilt by a 'knowledgeable' garage (independent). I guess they installed a new HPOP fuel pump and did not get it installed correctly and it ate itself up along with the rest due to metal filings in the oil. SUpposedly this shop has a good rep for cummins stuff?

You would be best off IF rebuilding to go whole hog, new ficm, new hpop, improved water pump etc. Just things to think about, still I beleive it would be less than the cost of 'used' brand of truck which would then be possibly ready for repairs on its own.

Google Powerstrokehelp.com This guy is in the Atlanta area. He really is a 6.0 fan and knows how to bullet proof one.

If everything else on the truck is good and it meets your needs, it might be worth your time to research the bullet proofing process and look for a reputable shop near your home that will do the work. If the cost of bullet proofing outweighs the loss of trading then it would be something to seriously consider.

Again this is just my opinion but what I really think what is horrible is the people out there that take full advantage of a truck owner who's engine has failed while on a trip with family in tow. I hope karmas a ***** because no one deserves to be stranded and told it's going to cost 6000 dollars to fix it and your held hostage. Thanks for your input. Unfortunately, my 2006 Diesel F-350 has more sensors than I have fingers. I can not work on a diesel or a modern car, but give me a car that had a carb. and manual timing and I could do many things. New is not necessarily better.

I'm a Ford diesel owner for the last 20 years, and even I would say that you should take the money you'd spend on bullet proofing the 6.0, and put it towards a different truck.

I know that you can have good luck with a 6.0 after bullet proofing them, but there is the question of value. As stated before, unless you can do the work yourself, you will have put more money into the truck than it's worth. Even after bullet-proofing, the 6.0 resale values are pretty low for a diesel truck.

As far a s a replacement, just about anything would be an improvement, even an older 7.3L Ford. You can find good used examples with low mileage for under $25k.

Really, you're right. Wrong choice of words.

dont know where ya get 20 hrs to remove the cab, its more like 3-4 per magazine articles. The guys who also work on these trucks also can do a lot cab on. So its not much different than any other to work on but you have to know who is doing what when you take in. Most of the problems for the 6.0 were due to inexperienced mechs/techs when they first came out which was a ford problem. Second mech/techs who dont know the truck also cause issues.

I had mine bullet proofed for less than $4K by an experienced ford tech on his own time. He brought the truck up to the latest in TSBs and she is a runner.

All vehicles have their problems, dodges were the 5.9 with the killer dowel pin, sorry fuel pumps (got caught on hoover dam behind one that had fuel pump failure one summer), then there are the steering box issues and some more. Chebby has their issues also. The newer 6.7 cummins are having some issues, but since I dont have one I dont know what they all are, so instead of slamming a vehicle you have no knowledge of other than what you have read, leave it at that.
