Round Hole Square Block...Sounds like a Psychological Test?

Last fall I had a local RV dealership's service department put a new 30 amp plug on my shore power line. When I picked up the RV I open the door to the storage compartment and saw they put on a new plug with the molded on handle. I was glad to now have a plug with a handle. Fast forward to this week. We arrived at a campground in NH for our first RV trip of the year. I was very surprised when the new plug would not fit through the round hole in the bottom of the cord storage compartment! I was going to just let it hand out and leave the door ajar. Rain was in the forecast and I was afraid water would seep in. I then remembered I had an extension cord with the regular plug without a handle. All was well and when I get home I will have the service department replace the plug.

You know... it also occurs to me that the square peg can be made to fit in the round hole with a big enough hammer :)

or as one friend's bumper sticker says:

Any restaurant is a drive in with enough horsepower.

(One I ate at once proved that.. The next diner to occupy the table I had been sitting at was a station wagon,, Thankfully I had paid and left when that happened).

Actually that is the best method for log cabins and older buildings that are pegged together. Drill a 1" hole in both timbers and taper one end of the 1" square wooden pg and drive in home with a BFH.

Ok, Back to the OP's problem----------I like the idea of a handle so I would install a larger storage box.

I'm assuming that "B" is "Big," "H" is "Hammer."

See, I told you there was a larger hole.. And being as your RV is white the color may still match.

One other thing you may wish to do some day....

I see a lot of complaints about that kind of power hatch, Pulling all that cable out and shoving it back in is a pain. The solution 1 and 2.

Replace hole with Marinco Inlet, cut cord and put Marino Outlet on cut end.. PROLEM: Marinco produts are not inexpensive,, you are looking at 140-200 in parts alone.

Cut cord say 3/4 of the way from hole to ground when set up. Add standard plug (like the one that is there now) put matching outlet on end of cord, (Make it into an extension cord) like 50 in parts, same labor.
  • Just went to the dealership and they are putting in a larger hole! They were very sorry and glad I solved the problem temporally to get through the week.

I like those power pull plugs.. I would consider having the hole enlarged (They make bigger holes after all). 15 bucks in parts and 20 minutes tops labor.
  • You forgot to tell them that you wanted to plug it in. Silly you !!!
  • Wow! Ya'd think they would check to make sure it's gonna fit.
