Often, but not always, they mean OVERNIGHT parking... However why risk it if the other side of the road is welcoming?
True stories: One Big Shopping mall, At one time I think it held the honor of being the largest but now it's kind of small compared with say Malls of America malls..
Christmas,, Woman pulls into handicapped and tells Security "I'll only be a minute" 2 hours later her car's in impound clear across town and she's ... Well,,, Upset (Like I said 2 hours later).. Oh well, I know how much tow trucks cost in that town too (Used to dispatch them)
Same mall, A bunch of teens, Security says "You can't park there" and ... Well the one finger salute... Kids return, eventually, Security is still in the area.... Again this is winter.... WHERE IS OUR CAR?... Over there (points)
Kids look and all they see is a mountain of snow..
Finally the guard says "Look up"
Bootstrap crane had lifted the car and set it where Security wanted it, ON TOP of a snow pile a good 10 foot tall.
The brats opted to pay for a new transmission AND a tow truck.
