I have an axillary tank so I can purchase fuel at less expensive prices, travel longer and just because. KSK Marine in Lake Havesue hooded me up. One of the Best $1000 I have ever spent! Good Luck & Be Safe ! ! ! - dannydimittExplorerthere is no shortage of propane in the salt domes around Mont Bellvue Texas.
it takes trucks, pipelines , trains etc. to get it up north , and the industry loves any reason it can invent to jack up prices and screw everyone they can !
We are less than 200 miles from the main source of propane in the US and we are being hosed as well . - RambleOnNWExplorer II29% of the natural gas coming up with the oil in North Dakota is still being flared off as of Dec. 2013. 70% of propane production comes from natural gas and 30% from the natural gas that comes up with the oil. In Alaska's North Slope oil producers have never been allowed to flare off the natural gas, they are required to re-inject it in the well.
In North Dakota the mineral rights owners have filed a class action lawsuit against the oil companies to be paid for the $100 mil/month in natural gas that the oil companies are flaring off. - tomman58Explorer

Since we use propane and are going to pay through the nose for the next fill I call the propane shortage a "PPPlanning" by the producers. Where we are we are the prime US recipients of these Polar Vortexes. It's been below zero for days and days with -40°F to -50°F wind chills.
At least, so far, the price of gasoline hasn't increased. But $4.00 a gallon is a bit much. :E
The UP of Michigan for the last several years has come up short on propane. There should be an investigation into thin as those people are suffering each year. I know it's business but it also can be a death sentence for older folks that can't do wood.
I was cool this year as I locked in a lot of propane at a price that is far lower than the current plus a guarantee of delivery.
Propane from NG is increasing in today's world and makes up better than half of the propane now. - LindsayRichardsExplorer
And who told you we wouldn't have harsh winters anymore?
This was after a few mild winters in the 2000 decade. They were wrong of course. This last Jan was the coldest month in this century. I think deciding on propane production has to be done many months prior to it's usage. We have artificial shortages after hurricanes here in Florida. In 2003, we had whole truckloads of portable generators coming in and selling for double the normal price. Following years we had people ordering them for stock and taking years to sell them. - SRTExplorerSince we use propane and are going to pay through the nose for the next fill I call the propane shortage a "PPPlanning" by the producers. Most of the propane produced is a byproduct of oil refining. It isn't easy to turn the switch up and down to produce more or less. It is a temporary shortage due to the hard winter which we were told was not going to happen much anymore. I hope the Super Bowl can escape the blizzard and heavy snow.
Actually, more than half of U.S. propane production comes from natural gas processing. But that's even less possible to turn up and down to align with demand.

I'm torn, part of me wants decent weather so we can have a good game, the other part wants a horrible blizzard to show the NFL how silly it is to have a northern game not in a domed stadium in the winter. I heard that the reason NY got the super bowl was as an inducement to build that NJ stadium.
