- rhagfoExplorer IIIWell up here in the NW Gas and Diesel have been going up gas about tow to three time as fast. When I filled on Monday reg. was $3.69 and Diesel was $3.99 back to a 30 cent difference.
I am thinking /hoping by Summer it will be even closer as the oil heating season will be over. - LindsayRichardsExplorerAn aircraft carrier doesn't travel alone. It goes in a battle group normally of over 20 ships including guided missile cruisers, guided missile destroyers, destroyers, antisubmarine frigates, attack submarines, ammunition supply, oilers and fuelers, supply ships and numerous helicopters, supply aircraft, and fighter jets. These all require fuel of various types (most of which is bunker C). They use a massive, massive amounts of fuel and the second one to the mid East being cut was all over the news in the last month or so.

We think $3.85 is expensive, just saw on TV that in the new budget presented today, the Navy is spending $150,000,000 on "green" biofuels at $26/gallon. I think they normally use Bunker C which is the cheapest form of oil product. I know we recently kept an aircraft carrier in port becasue it was too expensive for fuel.
All of the Navy's aircraft carriers (and submarines) are powered by nuclear reactors. there are other costs that out weigh fuel. - LindsayRichardsExplorerWe think $3.85 is expensive, just saw on TV that in the new budget presented today, the Navy is spending $150,000,000 on "green" biofuels at $26/gallon. - cekkkExplorerMany of you report prices dropping. Here in the Phoenix valley prices have dropped a tad, but diesel in this area has risen. The snowbirds are abandoning ship in droves. The big diesel pushers and Powerstrokes, Cumminses and Duramaxes are filling up and heading out.
- LindsayRichardsExplorerWe are bringing back the RV today and getting it ready for a Westward trip now that many of the snowbirds are leaving and the prices are coming down. I have a 3/4 tank of expensive fuel, but it seemed like a good idea at the time. Usually when we plan a trip, the prices go up. Sorry guys.

Changed time and gas prices sprang forward by ten cents. :(
Yup, must be the driving season ramping up :?. Half of the Gas Buddy reporting stations went up 10¢ to $3.79. We'll see in a few days. These price gyrations have been crazy. Guess we'll just have to plan for $4.00 a gallon and if we pay less, just be happy. Diesel prices are $3.99 to 4.09 and have been very, very slowly coming down. - cekkkExplorerStrict adherence to the fuel price bit would result in nothing but meaningless numbers. 3.49 here. 4.01 here. 3.99 here. Boring!
- Greydog_1ExplorerWell, we about ruined the Fuel price thread, maybe we should get a new thread and call it "Off subject" for review. We could run away with that one.

Gosh, I never said the city of Detroit owned the Newspaper. I was just surprised they had stayed when over half the people and most of the businesses had left already. They are bankrupt right now and the State has taken over the fiscal management of the city. Not aware of any formerly great city this has ever occurred in. The WSJ quoted reliable sources also. You should try actually reading the article. Be informed. Having never signed the front of a paycheck, I knew you wouldn't grasp the fact of the total cost of having an employee. Wouldn't try to begin to explain it to you. You are happy thinking the hourly wage is all the employer has to pay. Great, Good for you. Never said I saved 15% for 40 years. I said I paid that and we all did. (actually 10% is what I saved) and it yields 2.5 times social security and it has equity. Look it up on a time value of money calculator available for free on the web. Social Security is a bad deal. Sorry, but it is.
LR as I stated I took the WSJ for ten years and it was never anything but a right leaning rag in most respects. I only did financial info from it.
I said "IF" you saved ............
Also wrong on the signing the checks been there did that.
SS is only a lesser deal do to the yes found for the money by the congress. Granted if it were a locked box we would be riding high now. It still is the best deal a lot of folks have.
Sorry thing have not worked always in your favor. I was told in 1967 by my journeyman to live on 35 hours pay (this was our standard work week). I did this and even lived on 28 hours pay every 2 weeks when I had a school day. LOL. I retired at 59 and was glad to be done with work so I managed my stocks and mutual funds for fun and profit. I am glad to see that SS check show up in my account and my wife's the following week.
