The person with cash should get a dime OFF each gallon.
He does. If the person paying with a credit card pays more, then he must.I cannot think of any other business that uses this scam.
All businesses using credit cards have to pay for them in one way or another. If they charge the same, then the cash customer is subsidizing the credit card customers (like taxpayers subsidizing the EV.) - tomman58Explorerpersonally this was the same rip off employed during the old oil embargo.
We here in Mi and several other states have listed the cash price and the credit price. Usually about 7 or 8 cents a gallon.
I guess someone that wants to cart around hundreds of bucks and pay cash is a minority of the buyers. Most folks (especially at $4+ a gallon) use charges.
I cannot think of any other business that uses this scam except the slime in oil!
Drove by a gas station today but did us $0.11 in gas today. Casino is not one that has free charger so spent the big bucks going home, LOL (made $340. at the casino today though HA) - Greydog_1ExplorerThe person with cash should get a dime OFF each gallon.
- LindsayRichardsExplorerMy point is, somebody has to pay, either with or without cards. I think the person with the card should pay rather than the cash person.

There is a cost to the station for using a card. Should be paid for by the user. 10 cents seems excessive.
at one time the credit card companies wouldn't let them charge less for cash? I guess that day is over?

They lost that one in court.
We find 3% an average cost for a CC payment but some do pay as much as 7.5% (we did before we changed processing companies on some reward cards). Assume a chain of gas stations can get a 2% actually cost then at $4 a gallon the station charge from the CC processor would be 8 cents per gallon to take a CC as payment. There are other costs associated with CC usage.
The question remains will the market permit the seller to raise prices to cover CC usage.
On the up side the seller gets paid at once less the fee and there are no bad checks, etc. Plus people will spend more is they are not using cash in some cases. - BumpyroadExplorer

- Greydog_1ExplorerA dime a gallon if you use card? That is a tax we can call pure greed on the CC company and they should be banned from it. Next they will be adding a fee for entering their driveways for service. SSSHH!!They may already be thinking about it.
- Ski_Pro_3ExplorerRegular and Diesel are still dropping here in Northern California around the Central Valley. Prices yesterday were $3.79 each. However, a trend for adding a dime per gallon when using credit cards has started to develop.
- SRTExplorerGasoline prices in town seem to be "stabilizing" toward a price of $3.86. Diesel prices vary from $3.92 to $3.99. Oil price is currently $95.87. Seems the oil price has varied from $93.xx to $97.xx over the past few months. Plus we have had refinery maintenance. Sure glad we don't live around Chicago with their $4.50+ prices.
