- cekkkExplorerLet me take one last thrust at this windmill. "Tax Expenditures amount to $1.2trillion."
Once again, and this is not a difficult concept to grasp: Allowing people/companies to keep their hard earned money is not a subsidy/handout/tax expenditure/graft/greed or any other term you may dream up to make the confiscating and irresponsible dolloping out of their monies appear legitimate.
My friends, I worked with the pols of the 70s, 80s and 90s, every single standing committee, and some of the special and joint committees. It was clear decades ago, and when the numbers were WAY smaller, that there is not enough money in the world to sate the appetite of the members and the beggar/donators that our "representatives" entertain daily.
Ergo, he said tongue in cheek, I will NEVER ask anyone or anything to pay one single cent in tax that is not legally required and would, if I were a president willing to act outside the laws of the land and the Constitution to achieve my goals, cut: ALL federal taxes 50%, most federal programs 50 to 100%, at least four Departments, and lay off the hundreds of thousands of the functionally unemployable paycheck receivers euphemistically referred to as public servants now on the federal payroll. The remaining who carry them would get a raise. See. I am reasonable.
There. Now leave me alone. - LindsayRichardsExplorerThere is no free lunch. You save money on gas and the rest of us who refuse to accept the governmental handouts have to pay the massive subsidies. Oil prices would be much lower if the federal regulators were not doing everything they can to reduce production. We could tell the rest of the world to buzz off.
- tomman58ExplorerBy the way, have you noticed that ever since we have all this "new" oil the price of oil keeps going up, up and up?
Oh,I don't know what the new Diesel trucks will get and I am watching the MPGs of autos that I would buy (or lease)lately and not matter what if you can get a good deal on an electric lease your cost per month for fuel could be 25 bucks for electric and no more than 70 or 80 bucks a month for gas (900 extra mile/mo.@38mpg) 70 +25 = $105 month to go 900 (gas) + 960 (electric figured at 32 a charge (( I get more)) ) = 1860 miles a month travel. The same travel for a car/truck getting 20 mpg would be $360............. looks like you pocket $255 a month and only maybe one oil change a year.
Don't count the electrics out yet! - cekkkExplorerProgressives consistently take two approaches when confronted with facts they dislike. They switch the conversation to another topic or, if that isn't successful, they grin, snicker or make other facial gestures.
I haven't been by a gas station today. - BumpyroadExplorer

In my world all healthy welfare recipients would be offered the choice of getting a minimum wage job or spending 40 hours a week sweeping streets, shoveling snow, etc. Any woman receiving assistance for children would receive nothing for children born after going on assistance. Any man whose child I have to feed would also be fed by me, in canvas & wire holding pens on a Pacific territory. .
when I lived in Des MOines a lot of years ago, they had welfare to physically sound men requiring them to do a little bit of menial work as you mention. That policy had great results, lots of fellas dropped out of the welfare handout line.
