Wow, gasoline prices are dropping like a rock. Prices this morning range from $3.63 to $3.69. Hoping for continuing drop in prices.
Diesel on the other hand continues it's high prices - $4.39 to $4.49. Boy, what a rip-off.
Exactly the same in central NoDak! - camperdaveExplorerI have ~$15k in my EV conversion, not including my labor (it was a labor of love, so it's either priceless, or valueless, not sure which...). And a lot of it was using used parts. It's fully freeway capable, and a daily driver for my average of 35 miles/day. I just turned over 10k miles on it since last October.
I can make it look cheap, or I can make it look expensive. Just depends on how you look at the numbers. As Twain said, "There are lies, damn lies, and statistics." I can make the data look any way I want it too. So can you.
Makes no difference to me when people hate on the alt fuel movement, it works for me and many others, and will steadily grow. I make my choices, and vote with my wallet. And my wallet is paying for solar on my roof instead of gasoline lately. :B - SRTExplorerWow, gasoline prices are dropping like a rock. Prices this morning range from $3.63 to $3.69. Laugh all you want, but I have an electric vehicle I've owned for five years and commute with every day. I save more than $8 daily versus driving my diesel pickup which gets 17mpg empty. 34 miles round trip, I always plug it in at home and at work. Hans e.
apples and oranges. EV vs a large diesel pickup. how much would you save had you bought a small rice burner to commute in instead of the EV?

Cost of electric power is about $2 or $3 to go 100 miles. I will let you do the math.
And yes there are cheaper cars. Lowest cost is probably to buy a 10 year old econobox if total cost is the only thing you look at.- LindsayRichardsExplorerIf you had read the whole article (and many more) you would know that they are in fact stopping the subsidies and are not going green. They are only at 3% now. The golf reference was a joke. I know all about EV's and as a taxpayer am part owner of a company that makes a few of them.

Well, mine was a conversion kit and I'm into it for around $2000 total. Had some issues early on, and that was frustrating because I was using a firm out of Canada who gets their parts from China, but the last two years have been problem free. It's not for everyone, I know that. And for the record Bumpy, I'm a huge diesel fan, I too own a VW Jetta that is diesel powered (2006 TDI 6spd) and never gets less than 43mpg city and 48mpg hwy. An amazing car, just like the big guys, that little 1.9 diesel pulls hard out of the basement all the way to redline, and at 86,000 miles has never been to the dealer for a single repair. Hans - HJGyswytExplorer$3.83 for regular unleaded and $4.03 for diesel in Buckley (35 miles from Seattle)

Electric vehicles will never be right for everyone. Even 10% or 20% market penetration will make a huge difference reducing imported oil without an undue strain on the grid. Those that need to burn gas-diesel should be supporting those that are not competing for this expensive resource.
23,000 gas free miles so far and 1600+ gallons of gasoline not burned in my truck. Think what a million EVs could do for reducing gasoline prices.
BTW it does kinda drive like a slot car and makes me feel like a kid :)
Sounds good to me!
