Safety
Hi All.. Maybe it is just me but I am getting concerned about our personal safety at camp grounds. Should a camper carry a weapon(gun)in the camper? Currently I do not. Jim2007

In my state, the Legislature just passed a bill, that concealed carry permits are no longer needed. Our Governor vetoed the bill, as he did not want this changed. There are so many CCPs issued in my state, the Governor figured we could not handle the loss of revenue, of permit renewal. Concealed carry, without a permit, is just a misdemeanor in my state. The Legislature will consider an override on Monday. I quit playing the permit renewal game many years ago.

I assume this correct? I do have a Concealed permit from WA State, if pulled over for a light out lets say in CA do they know you have a permit?
If so IMHO a great reason NOT to get a permit.
I do think the CC info is available to any LEO calling in your plate number, to check you out. Your permit request would have gone through an FBI computer to check you out, so info would be available nation wide. Not from personal experience, but I've heard of others being stopped, and asked if carrying, which I think reason being, they know you are licensed to CC.
Lots of talk about this in my area, due to possible, no CC permit bill becoming law. One thing mentioned, in local news, you can open carry right now, with no permit, such as laying on seat of truck, or in plain sight holster, hanging on your hip. My state, not sure every state.

I have never in my life used a fire extinguisher. Never even close to needing one......ever. I still have one in my house, workshop and trailer. And I hope I never have to use one. :)
I have never used a spare tire on my trucks. I still carry one. I hope I never need it. :)
Interesting thought, I never thought about using a gun to extinguish a fire..

I think people watch a few too many TV shows and movies. You are about as likely to see a Unicorn as you are to be involved in a shooting that isn't domestic or drug related. Fact is a friend or relative is much more likely to shoot you than a stranger. Violent criminals are not lurking around every corner waiting to assault you.westernrvparkowner wrote:
Let me put my position a different way. If you do not feel the need to have a firearm for protection at home you probably don't need one for the Rv. RVing is not an activity that raises the threat level. It is an activity that brings about encounters you are unlikely to experience at home, which greatly increases the odds you will accidentally injure someone.
While RVing you are likely to have more personal interactions. Strangers are likely to be much closer to your personal space than you are accustomed to. You will be in unfamiliar surroundings and sounds common to where you are camping may be very alarming to you. Remember the scene in the movie "My Cousin Vinny" where city slicker Joe Pesci starts blasting away into the night because an Owl was hooting? I am much more afraid of an armed person in a strange environment than I am of being attacked while RVing.
HMMM, you have never had a crazy in your park you had to deal with? "Threat level", there is ALWAYS that possibility!
I choose to be ready as needed.
Mod's, nice you are allowing this civil discussion!

In San Bernardino, the gunmen had semiautomatic assault rifles. The shooting was over in a less than 3 minutes. During that time more than 100 rounds were fired by the attackers. In the ensuing chaos, people fled in multiple directions, a sprinkler system water pipe ruptured spraying water into room further hindering visibility. The odds of even getting a potential shot was minimal and the odds of injuring bystanders rather than the attackers was extremely high.
Let's see, Did the people in San Bernardino feel safe before that travesty? Did the people in Orlando feel safe? How about the people in London just this week? I choose to always have the tools I need with me and the training to use those tools.
We live in a different world than we did even 20 years ago. Society as a whole has lost their moral compass and it is becoming and individuals responsibility to keep themselves and their family safe.

Perhaps a weapon would have been useful in Orlando, however I don't believe anyone would say that a nightclub full of semi-intoxicated youths armed with handguns would be safer than just saying "no weapons in this club".
In London, the dead bystanders were all killed by a vehicle. I know I don't want anyone shooting at random cars thinking one may suddenly veer into them.
I have followed these forums for years. Still haven't seen a single verifiable post about how an RVer has shot an intruder while camping.
