The experience with these tires really highlighted internal deterioration factor on trailer use tires. I just think that trailer use is really hard on any tire. At the four year mark I had four blowouts. The first blowout was on the way up north. The return trip I had three blowouts.
I could not recommend the tires for anything but intermittent local use.

Did they give you 4 years of reliable service? How were they stored when not in use?

The point is that they gave you 4 years of service, and sat out in the sun. So how are they are terrible tire? How would another tire subjected to the same conditions have performed differently?
Couple of points-
1) 3 to 5 years is normal ST tire life
2) When a tire fails on one side of the trailer-the remaining tire on the same side needs to be replaced-as it has been "weakened" by the blowout event.
