Sat. TV

How do I convert the Cable TV exterior input connection to permit access to Sat. TV?
  • I've tried all kind of ways to get Sat. TV. Ive had domes on top, Winneguard carry out, and now the tailgater. Had a service man that understood all this. All I have to do is set tailgater where it has a clear view, let it run its 15 minute set of things, and we have Sat. just fine. RV came with a Sat inlet plug. Very simple. If we want DVD we just select correct settings in tv and dvd player. All very simple. I never use the bat wing.
  • Might be easier to just install a new connection through the wall near where you want it. Only cost a few bucks - I did it on my last TT and it allows you to still get local channels with the Batwing.
  • Here is the satellite rewiring mod I performed to be able to utilize my single exterior coax input for satellite tv viewing. Very easy rewire and has worked flawlessly delivering all the same Directv programming we enjoy at home, including locals if we are still within NM.

First: I do not recommend making that conversion because they often use very cheap cable when wiring an RV and I really like quality RG-6... I also consider the fact that you might wish to use park cable in some parks.. (See thread on Tailgaters on the east coast..... they do not work well)

What I recommend, and did, was run a brand new RG-6 cable for the job.

Now, that said.. Here is how you do it:

IF your RV has the box of many buttons that selects several different sources for several different tv's and a VCR or DVR pull it out, on the back find the PARK CABLE lead, remove it and extend it to the sat receiver. Job done.

If you have the Winegard wall plate with the 12 volt socket, Light, Switch and Antenna connector (all 4 must be present) Or the Sensar Pro with the two digital displays, 3 buttons and a column of LED's.. Pull it,

On the wall plate it is usually the middle cable

on the sensar Pro it is labeled CABLE.

Extend it to the sat receiver and bring the COAX out on the sat receiver (If present) back to the same port you just disconnected from.

Your SAT TV will not get 12VDC Control DC VOLTAGE thru the SAT TV CONNECTION for the SAT TV ANTENNA Head to work.

You need to connect the SAT TV head port directly to the ANT CONNECTION on the SAT RCVR to get the DC Control Voltage.

For us it was easiest to run a couple of RG cables from the portable TRIPOD SAT TV Antenna two port head. Ran one RG cable to the front room SAT TV Receiver and the second RG cable to the SAT Receiver ANT input in the bed room. Then we connected the VIDEO OUTPUT cables to the TV's VIDEO INPUTs in each location.

Once setup this allowed us to use the TV REMOTE to select SAT TV or CABLE/OTA TV.

Don't have any idea how the newer SAT TV hookups are being used.

We ran this method for a few years until the NATL BROADCAST TV came out with true high def digital TV signals from the local towns. Since all we really like to watch was broadcast TV stations we just stopped bringing along the SAT TV items. We can pick up digital TV from the local towns using our BATWING OTA antenna. It is also FREE to use...
