I prefer the large tank. I trip vs. 4 trips. The decision is easy for me. I agree the large tank is heavier but I am still capable of moving it to the truck.
I want to empty my 40 gallon tank in 1 trip if possible.
Lately I have been closing the valve at the end of the discharge pipe and opening both black and grey tanks and letting them equalize. You can gain 10 to 15 gallons of capacity that way by taking advantage of the extra capacity available in the black tank.

I agree. Except for me it was a storage issue. When I had the TT’s I had no room for a 20+ gallon tote. But I made doo :B with the small 10 gallon. Now with the MH and it’s huge storage a bigger one would be helpful, but I also now have larger holding tanks.

Years ago, I bought a tote. Then I realized that most Forest Service campgrounds we went to had no dump station, and the nearest such station was 10 miles or more away. If we weren't in a USFS or state park campground, we had a full hookup site.
So, after a couple years of the thing laying under the work bench gathering dust, I sold it in a rummage sale for $15. IIRC, I used it once, at home.
The bottom line is, before you fill the tank, make sure there is a place to empty it!
Edit: In many USFS/State Park campgrounds, emptying a tote into the vault toilets is against the rules, and the Camp Host can evict you for doing so.

We use a 165 gallon custom bladder made by Husky Portable Containment.

Used to use a FloJet macerator pump to fill it, now using a Sani-Con Turbo 400S.

If you can’t figure out how to use a tote so it’s not “fussing”, you probably can’t figure out how to use an auto-switch regulator so you never run out of LP either. :W

I have up to 84 gallons and usually roll before they are full.
I must be faster at moving the trailer and it is one-and-done with no extra transfers, storage, smells or spills.

OHHHHK. "fussing" with a tote is far simpler than moving an RV!

Steps to take my trailer to dump:

-remove king pin support
-disconnect sat dish
-pack up loose things in trailer
-pack up cat
-bring slides in
-disconnect 30a cord from generators
-hitch up to truck
-loosen/remove chocks
-hopefully leave solar panels up

DUMP (or have fun waiting in a dump line)

Upon returning, re-level trailer, then reverse all the above.

I would much rather move the trailer and dump vs fuss with a tote. I did the tote thing with just grey water while I had a pop-up. Was glad to be rid of it when I traded for the trailer. That is my experience.
