Severe Flooding Denver, Boulder, Lyons, Estes Park

We are here in Loveland,Co just above the Big Thompson River which flows out of Rocky Mtn Nat'l Park. The river is at flood stage with a wall of water coming down many of the mountain canyons 15-20 foot high. There is a fireman trapped in a tree near Boulder and all roads into the mountains with exception of the interstate are close.
The St Vrain River west of Longmont in the Lyons area are encountering record high levels. Many person in Lyons have been evacuated and all roads closed there.
RV's in RMNP are stranded as Estes Park has had over 8" of rain to this point.
Trout fishing is out of the question!!

Good luck to all out there- I was in Estes Park during the flood in 1976. It can get very, very bad very, very quickly.

We were in Rocky Mountain National Park, in our travel trailer, in July or August of 1976. Flooding occurred in the Big Thompson Canyon. We drove down into Estes Park the day after the flood. If I recall correctly 40 or 50 people were killed. The bodies were being stored in refrigerated trailer trucks. What a terrible sight!

I remember the 76 flood below Estes.If I remember right a dam gave way.Killed alot of folks.Y'all stay safe.

The state trooper that drove down the canyon warning the residents got killed too. My wife worked for ma bell and she got called in to run a switch board in the middle of the night.

Saw it on the news this AM- that's just nuts! ... best of luck to all you Front Rangers down in the low lands.

Just read tonight that an Escapee Park in NM is also flooding and they are rescuing residents with boats and helicopters. 2 trapped in the flooding that they are still trying to rescue. And, a ton of rain to hit around the mexican gulf and up into texas with 10 - 25" of rain possible. Take care any and all that are in these areas as well as colorado.

We made plans to see Estee Park and Rocky MT National Park next week. Any suggestions on what to see now?

I just heard on the news that the CU campus in Boulder is being evacuated. Ft. Carson just to the south of Colorado Springs has had 10" of rain in the last 6.5 hrs and it is still raining. Lots of roads and streets closed in CO right now.
