sewer hose.

I have used the same sewer hose for 10yrs. Never thought about it. For some reason just before we left I got the sewer hose out. There was this funny ZIPPPPP noise and I had a hand full of slinky. The plastic was GONE! I hate to think what a mess i would have if I had hooked it up to the black tank and pull the the valve.:E
Luckily I had bought a new sewer hose a couple of years ago and never used it.

  • I know when it is spring when I see the stinky slinky bumpers disgorge the hoses on I-35 and 290.
  • A couple of years back, I was up in central British Columbia and stopped for fuel at a station. Asked where I could find a sanidump and was told the station had one around back that I was welcome to use. Drove back there and watched a Class C rig driving off, where the driver had forgotten to put his sewer hose away. It was still connected to his rig and the L attachment was in the dump line. It was probably a 15 or 20 ft hose originally, but as a "slinky" it must have been at least 50 or 60 ft long, before it tore loose from the RV. I would have loved to have seen the drivers reaction when he next stopped and went to hook up his sewer hose and it dawned on him what he had done.

Here in the swamp land of south Florida, something in the coastal air causes plastics, vinyls, etc. to disintegrate in just a few years, so I have to change out my hoses about every 5 or 6 years, a cheap investment as I see it, as I don't want to see the contents of my tanks running around my feet some day when I go to dump. LOL
  • I always run a bit of gray water through before trusting my hose and setup to black water. Just to "test the waters" so to speak. It is still stinky, but not as bad as the black.

I found some pinhole leaks in 2 of my cheap blue hoses at the same time.

I have 4 hoses of that size in this RV
1: The original hose that came with my starter kit.. NOW, I do not often need it but strangely it is the oldest hose in the house
2: A Camco Easy Store, this is a hose (20') that comes in it's own storage tube,, I have replaced the hose.

3: I do not know who made it but it's Reddish/Orange and I got it at Campign world this is an Extension Hose (I also put extension style ends on the Starter kit hose and the ez-store is an extrension hose.

My latest is a Tetford "Smart hose" this hose is different first you must have the matching adapters, the hose itself has Cam-Lock ends.

Original assembly was a real pain Took all my strength to push the hose onto the cam-lock adapters.. and at that I needed to use tools on one of the cams. (Pilars squeezed the hose and adapter together till the cam locked easily).

I like the way it attaches to the RV

No problems with it so far

Very nice "Look and feel" to the hose

Does not collapse as much as the other hoses, epically the Rino-Flex (my 2nd) which it replaced. but since I have ample hose storage, NOT a problem.

One comment: Many trailers epically have hose-storage bumpers.. These tend to tear up the hose.. Some folks will lay like a length of Gutter (Eves-troth) cut to the bumper length, lay the hose in the trouth and slide it in that way, Seems to work well..

I use a 7" fence post and a 6" PVC pipe I do have to remove the sewer end of the Smart Hose.

Yep... I'm at that point. But... I just dumped this past weekend and it worked, so once again I'll put off buying a new one. Until, of course, it breaks...
  • That could have been a 'photo opportunity' moment.

    Get another spare slinky, soon.
