Solar System Feedback - Go Power Extreme

Happy New Year Everyone!

Yesterday I dropped off my 5'r (Durango Gold G380FLF) at the dealer to get several small PDI issues taken care of. I've been looking at having a solar system installed and spoke with their service manager about which system they suggest. It turns out that they offer "Go Power" and "Zamp" solar systems. The manager suggested the "Go Power Extreme" for my application. This system has three 160 watt panels (480 watt total), controller, ATS and all other pieces/parts needed to completely set it up. The system looks pretty solid.

The one thing is the price. The Go Power system seems to be about 1/2 again as much as other comparable systems. I know solar component prices are all over the place and so is the quality. I'm looking for value and quality at a reasonable price point.

Has anyone here installed a "Go Power" system? What has been your experience? Is the system worth the extra $$$$'s?

Thanks in advance.

This is the system referred too: Go Power Extreme
  • 160 watt panels are $115 each at Solar Synergy at SolarBLVD.com

Excellent 45 amp PWM controller $165 MS Tristar-45 at SolarBLVD

So maybe $600 shipped for prime components and $400 of wire, supplies and tools so $1,000 max in parts.

The additional $5,000 for install, markup and profit seems a bit much.

Kit probably has more stuff than you need or even want. 3000w inverter? New converter? etc, etc.
  • sounds crazy expensive IMO, it would be nice to see a breakdown of labour vs equipment cost. It's not really that hard to install yourself... I managed it and I hate heights. I also believe you get a better system by buying pieces individually as opposed to the kits.

    NO!
    Way over priced.

You can get a 400 watt system complete with charge controller and 1500 watt inverter for under $1000.
  • I built my own 2Panels 255w from CL $150 ea. 45A MPPT from solar blvd, Magnum inverter from imarine for less money than that
  • You should assess your electrical needs first. That comes with a 3kw inverter. You really need that big an inverter? Do you have enough batteries to dry camp? How much dry camping do you do? Etc.
  • You will always pay more for a "kit". I have about $2500 into my solar system and that includes the four batteries.
  • Installed it will come to about $6k. I updated/corrected the original post. System total watts is 480. Three 160 watt panels.
  • What do the extra $$$$ amount to? I wouldn't call 160W to be "extreme"?
