And they are very safety conscious... - HandbasketExplorerX2 on BigRabbitMan. They have a need, and find a way.
I saw some similarly overloaded buses, scooters, and jeepneys when we were in port in Subic Bay in the Philippines, less so in the 'city' of Olongapo, moreso out in the sticks. This would have been in '68-'71. Usually it was passengers, sometimes farm produce. Same around Kaoshung, Taiwan, tho' no jeepneys.

- BigRabbitManExplorerHere is where I have been a "participant" in loading up a vehicle.

That is me and the wife on the island of Boracay in the Philippines. The driver put us both in the front as he said that if I was in the back it might tip rearward. Our luggage for three week trip and a hired tour guide was in the back. A little rain was falling so the side curtains were down. At 6'3" it was a tight fit!
We repeated this type of trip in Kalibo when the van driver got sick, I then drove the van and him to a hospital and then I hired another one of these to get us to the airport in time to catch our plane.
I counted as high as 15 people on one of these "tricycles". - et2ExplorerBabies in buckets !!! :S:E
- bukhrnNomadGuarantee the folks at the OSHA headquarters, & the Traffic Safety Bureau had a major coronary when they saw this. :B

- VeebyesExplorer IIWhat these people load onto 150cc bike people in the US could not figure a way to fit it on to a 1 ton long bed pickup.
Being limited to only 1 car per household & that car may not be much larger than a Toyota Yaris, I can empathise with these people. The DW & I have carried a Christmas tree home on a bike before but we have nothing on these people in the Far East.
How do their vehicles survive? Even their animals. The pin weight on that goat was a little light. - BigRabbitManExplorerActually, I think these photos show how resorseful many people in other countries can be. They have a need and find a way. I have traveled in the Philippines and also saw some of this. It was people getting a job done with what they had to work with.
They have my respect. - DutchmenSportExplorerI was stationed in Korea (Army) from 1984-1985, I saw some pretty wild overloaded situations also. Most were bicycles or those 3 wheeled garden tractors.
