Especially if you sink your truck and TT in the lake....- am1958ExplorerUnless you are ice fishing for survival it's a stupid pastime... Little more energy can be gained from the meat normally caught than was expended catching it... In a survival situation that can help you keep your "bank account" closer to the black but, overall, you are wasting energy...

X2! - Chum_leeExplorerJust because the ice is relatively flat on the top doesn't mean it's flat (at all) on the bottom.
Chum lee - K_CharlesExplorerMy father use to deliver sand to cottages, to make or fix a beach, on a couple local lakes where the only access was by water. in the 80's was the last time I used a tractor to clean the ice for the kids to skate. Just like everything else, Ice ain't what it use to be.
- smartyExplorer IIEven in the dead of winter going on the ice is a risk. You better know the lake very well. In northern Michigan the lake I grew up on had a current near a dam on the lake. Even in the coldest of winters it was not save to drive a vehicle or even a snowmobile anywhere near the dam. Have seen many people go in the lake during the winter as they did not now that this area never froze.
- LwiddisNomadDriving on ice is scary. I don't do it.
- Cloud_DancerExplorer IIThat kind of fishing danger is for people who can handle a lot more cold than I. My ice-fishing shack will be on pontoons, and have 4 heaters. The front and rear outboard motors would look like midget snowmobiles.
- FizzExplorerI've walked on ice a foot thick and clear as glass. Very, very spooky
- romoreExplorer IIWe learned our lesson before anybody got hurt thank goodness. We were running snowmobiles on the lake and had a river of water follow us everywhere. Managed to get five machines stuck but everybody got off safely. However, every year somebody gets killed falling through the ice or by avalanches.
