Storage bag or box for Coleman roadtrip needed

OK, Amazon Prime day got me....I bought a Coleman Roadtrip lxe for a great price, so I splurged and bought the Coleman bag too (without checking reviews). That was a mistake. The Coleman roadtrip storage bag is so small that you have to remove the handle on the grill to get it in the bag, and no room for anything else (hoses, handle, etc). I think this bag will have to go back.

Anyone find a storage bin, box, bag, that will hold this thing ....and have room for a few extra BBQ things ....while traveling? The dimensions needed would be at least 40"x20"x14" I'm just looking to keep the vehicle clean while carrying and keeping it all together. I've been looking online and I haven't come up with anything yet. Anyone have any ideas?

  • We also got rid of our Roadtrip after getting fed up with some of the stupid features and poor quality. Upgraded to the very popular Weber Q 1200. Maybe there's a club somewhere for the happily converted?? :)

When the Roadtrip is "folded" up for storage, it won't sit flat and rocks left/right a fair bit. Why would they design it like that? I used a foam block under each end in the pass-through compartment to prevent it from sliding around.

If stored in a pass-through, I can't see the need for a bag. We had a Coleman cover for the Roadtrip but only used it once or twice over several years. You *might* get one of those to work and could perhaps trim some of the overhanging material off and fold it under? Maybe get the seamstress in the family to sew a zipper onto it?

The one thing I do miss about the Roadtrip is the large flat grate for doing things like pancakes. Oh wait, the lid won't close with the large grate in place. :M No, actually I don't miss it, lol... :)
  • Well, I didn't find anything better today at the local stores, so I guess I'll be keeping the roadtrip bag. The bag is fine, just small. The roadtrip was hard to pass up for $84.
  • I have the roadtrip and the bag. Taking the handle off takes about 1 second. You're right, not a whole lot of room in the bag, but it does seem to hold everything I need.

Had a roadtrip and that wheeled bag also.

Bag was pretty good........the roadtrip was cheap junk

Got rid of both and bought a Weber Smoking Joe charcoal.

Better then either and no bag needed

THat's sort of my story too. But the bag was really nice

  • Maybe something has changed from a few years ago. But I had a roadtrip with a wheeled bag that worked great!
  • Yeah, that's what I'm talking about, but the Coleman is so long, I haven't found anything yet. I'm headed to the stores today with tape in hand.

Visit any big box store with tape measure in hand and see what you can find. ;) That's what I did when looking for a suitable storage bin for our Weber Q - holds everything, stores easily in the back of the truck, and the lid seals in greasy cooking odours. :B
